Riversmith Quick Picks

  • Best All-Around: Riversmith River Quiver - The original rooftop rod carrier for anglers tired of threading guides in a parking lot. Rigged rods up to 10 feet 4 inches ride in a locking aluminum tube with the reels in a padded box, in 2-Banger or 4-Banger.
  • Best for Trucks: Riversmith Truck Bed River Quiver - A ShortCut carrier bundled with the hardware to mount it along the inside wall of a pickup bed. Rods ride locked and out of sight under a tonneau cover or topper, and you keep the rest of the bed.
  • Best for Small Vehicles: Riversmith ShortCut River Quiver (5'2) - The compact version, just under 5 feet 9 inches long, for small cars, short-cab trucks, overland rigs with a tent, UTVs, and campers.
  • Best for Euro and Switch Rods: Riversmith Euro River Quiver (11'4) - The long version for 10-foot-6 and 11-foot Euro nymphing rods, switch rods, and short two-handers that are a foot too long for the standard tube. Everything else is the same River Quiver.
  • Best for Air Travel: Riversmith The Travel Pack: Fly Fishing Travel Bag - A hard-sided carry-on that replaces your rod case and your overnight bag. At 33 by 12 by 7.25 inches it fits most overhead bins and holds six or more 4-piece rods in socks, reels, and a few days of clothes.

How to Choose Riversmith

Pick the carrier length for your rods and your vehicle

Action: Measure your longest rod and your roof before you order. The standard River Quiver takes rods to 10 feet 4 inches fully rigged. A 10-foot-6 or 11-foot Euro rod or a switch rod needs the Euro River Quiver at 11 feet 4 inches, or the Riversmith River Quiver Extension Kit, which adds a 12-inch section to a standard carrier you already own in under ten minutes.

Best for: Anything that cannot carry a tube over ten feet, the ShortCut. It holds the same 10-foot-4 rods broken in half, so you lose nothing but length on the roof.

Choose the right mount

Every new River Quiver ships with the Riversmith Standard Mount, a bracket with a T-stud that slides into the track on the bottom of the carrier and clamps around your crossbar. The other mounts solve specific problems.

Best for: Taking the carrier off for winter, a car wash, or a second vehicle, the Riversmith Quick Release Mount. It is a lever-action locking mount developed with Kuat that works with any River Quiver on any crossbar, no tools once the mounts are clamped on.

Best for: Yakima, Thule, Rhino-Rack and other T-slot bars, the Riversmith Low-Profile T-Track Mount. It bolts the carrier straight into the T-track with no bracket around the bar and adds only about 5/8 inch above the crossbar.

Bags for the rest of the trip

Best for: Raft trips and flights on the same bag, Riversmith The Duffel: Waterproof Duffel Bag. It is a 45-liter duffel with a zippered lid for daily use and an internal roll-top that seals the main compartment when the bag goes in the bottom of a boat, plus backpack straps and side straps for two rod tubes.

Best for: The truck-bed and boat bag that eats wet gear, the Hauler tote in 45 or 60 liters, with a roll-top and a zippered side door so the fly box on the bottom comes out without unpacking. The Gear-Roll wader bag unrolls into a changing mat, and the PackOut is a half-pound hip pack with a removable, washable trash bag.

Why Trident Carries Riversmith

Riversmith solved a problem every traveling angler has: rigged rods and a vehicle. The River Quiver lets you pull up to the water and start fishing, and the lineup has grown into a real system, with lengths for Euro rods, a compact version, a truck-bed option, three mount styles, and security hardware.

Care & Maintenance

  • Rinse the tube regularly: Riversmith designed the River Quiver to shed water but breathe, so it is not sealed. Dust that builds up inside can scratch rod finishes, and a regular rinse is the manufacturer's answer.
  • Check hardware on a schedule: Riversmith recommends checking mount hardware after the first install, before trips, after rough roads, and at the start of each season.
  • Zero gap at the couplers: When installing an extension, the extrusions must meet with no gap. A gap at the coupler is where rod tips get damaged.
  • Dry the bags open: After a salt trip, rinse the Duffel, Hauler, and Travel Pack with fresh water and let them dry fully open so zippers and roll-tops stay smooth.

Riversmith FAQs

Q: What is a Riversmith River Quiver?

A: A locking aluminum rod carrier that mounts to your roof rack and holds fully rigged fly rods, reel attached and line through the guides. Rods ride tip-forward in a lined tube and the reels lock in a padded box at the back, so you park and start fishing.

Q: How long a rod fits in a River Quiver?

A: The standard River Quiver and the ShortCut both take rods up to 10 feet 4 inches. The Euro River Quiver takes rods up to 11 feet 4 inches, and the Extension Kit brings a standard carrier to that same length.

Q: Will a Riversmith River Quiver fit my roof rack?

A: Riversmith says the Standard Mount works with virtually any crossbar, including Yakima, Thule, and factory racks, and the Low-Profile T-Track Mount is for T-slot bars.

Q: Is the River Quiver waterproof?

A: It is designed to shed water but breathe, not to be sealed. Some dust and moisture will get in, which is why Riversmith recommends rinsing it regularly so grit does not scratch your rods.

Q: Should I get a 2-Banger or a 4-Banger?

A: Count the rods rigged at the same time on a typical trip. A solo angler with a dry rod and a nymph rod is fine with a 2-Banger.

Q: Can I carry a Riversmith Travel Pack on a plane?

A: It is sized at 33 by 12 by 7.25 inches to fit most overhead bins, and the rigid compartments protect rods if it does get gate-checked.
