Description
The Riversmith ShortCut River Quiver is the compact version of the rooftop fly rod carrier: just under 5 feet 9 inches long, it holds rods up to 10 feet 4 inches broken in half, reel still attached and line still through the guides. It is built for small cars, trucks with a short cab, overland rigs with a tent on the rack, UTVs, campers and trailers, anywhere a 10-and-a-half-foot tube does not fit. Pick the 2-Banger for two rods or the 4-Banger for four, in Silver or Black, with mounts and Rod Chairs included.
How It Works
Break the rod at the middle ferrule and slide both halves into the tube with the reel attached. The included Rod Chairs clip the two halves together so the rigged line does not tangle, and the fly stays hooked on the keeper. At the water, pull the rod, seat the ferrule, and fish. The reel box door swings open to the side with a hold-open hinge, and a key locks the whole carrier for the drive.
Double-barrel tube construction - A hard aluminum outer shell takes the road abuse. A soft polypropylene inner lining keeps tips, guides and blanks from rattling against metal.
Padded, locking reel box - The reel box is molded from AES polymer with a high-security tongue-and-groove joint, so there is no seam to pry at. The included pads cradle the reels on rough roads.
Built for the long haul - The tube and reel box are built to take shock, impact loads and vibration, and at 15 lbs for the 2-Banger it is light enough to install alone.
Choosing a Mount
Every ShortCut ships with mounts and hardware. The mount you choose at checkout changes how it attaches to your rack and how easily it comes off.
- Standard Mount: The original clamp-on bracket. Fits most commercial crossbars and is the lowest-cost option. Extended bolts for crossbars thicker than 1.5 inches are included with the ShortCut.
- Quick Release Mount: Lever-action mounts developed with Kuat. Install, lock, unlock and remove the whole carrier in seconds, with no tools.
- LP T-Track Mount: Bolts straight into any T-track roof rack or platform and keeps the carrier as flush as possible, about 3 inches above the crossbar.
Truck owners can also put the ShortCut inside the bed with Riversmith's Truck Bed Mount, or buy the Truck Bed River Quiver, which bundles the two.
Will Your Rods Fit?
Any 4-piece rod up to 10 feet 4 inches fits broken in half. Two-piece rods do not, since the halves are longer than the tube. Spey and switch rods up to 12 feet 6 inches fit if you order the ShortCut together with a River Quiver Extension Kit and Riversmith builds it to length. An Extension Kit bought later needs modification to fit a ShortCut.

Riversmith backs the ShortCut River Quiver with a limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
Why We Like It
The full-length River Quiver is the better tool if it fits your vehicle, but a lot of vehicles it does not: a Subaru with a cargo box, a Tacoma with a rooftop tent, a Jeep with a short roof. The ShortCut gives those rigs the same locked, lined, side-loading carrier at a third of the weight, and seating one ferrule at the water is still far faster than rigging from scratch. It is also the only River Quiver that mounts inside a truck bed.
