Description

The Riversmith River Quiver is the original rooftop fly rod carrier: a locking aluminum tube that rides on your roof rack and holds fully rigged rods, reel and all, so you pull up to the water and start fishing instead of threading guides in a parking lot. Rods ride tip-forward in a lined tube with the reels locked inside a padded box at the back of the vehicle. Pick the 2-Banger for two rods or the 4-Banger for four, in Silver or Black, with the mount already included.

How It Works

Each rod slides into its own channel inside the extrusion with the reel still attached. The reel box door swings open to the side and a hold-open hinge keeps the wind from slamming it shut while you load. Close the door, turn the key, and the rods are locked in for the drive. Loading or unloading four rods takes well under a minute.

Double-barrel tube construction - A hard aluminum outer shell takes the road abuse. A soft polypropylene inner lining keeps tips, guides and blanks from rattling against metal.

Padded, locking reel box - The reel box is molded from AES polymer with a high-security tongue-and-groove joint, so there is no seam to pry at. The included pads cradle the reels so they do not knock together on washboard roads.

Aerodynamic profile - The tube is shaped to minimize drag and wind noise, and it sits 3 3/8 to 6 inches above the crossbar depending on which mount you choose.

Built for the long haul - The tube and reel box are built to take shock, impact loads and vibration, and plenty of owners leave the carrier on the vehicle year-round.

Choosing a Mount

Every River Quiver ships with mounts and hardware. The mount you choose at checkout changes how it attaches to your rack and how easily it comes off.

  • Standard Mount: The original clamp-on bracket. Fits most commercial crossbars and is the lowest-cost option. Crossbars thicker than 1.5 inches need extended bolts, sold separately. Locking bolt sets are available if you want the mount itself secured.
  • Quick Release Mount: Lever-action mounts developed with Kuat. Install, lock, unlock and remove the whole carrier in seconds, with no tools. The right choice if you take the carrier off between trips or for the winter.
  • LP T-Track Mount: Bolts straight into any T-track roof rack or platform and keeps the carrier as flush as possible, about 3 inches above the crossbar. Secured with a unique key driver.

If a spoiler or lift gate gets in the way, Riversmith's spacer kit raises the carrier for clearance. Factory racks that sit unusually low to the roof (common on earlier 4Runners and CR-Vs) are covered in Riversmith's mounting guide.

Will Your Rods Fit?

The standard River Quiver holds rods up to 10 feet 4 inches long, rigged, up to a 12-weight outfit. That covers single-hand trout, bass and saltwater rods. Spey, switch and longer Euro nymphing rods need the Euro River Quiver, or the Extension Kit, which adds 12 inches to a standard carrier for rods up to 11 feet 4 inches. If you drive a smaller car or a truck with a short cab, look at the ShortCut model, which carries the same rods broken in half.

Warranty

Riversmith backs the River Quiver with a limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

Why We Like It

There are cheaper rod vaults, and most of them stack rods two over two in a tube you load from the end. The River Quiver puts every rod side by side at the same height, loads from a side door, and locks the reels in a box you can actually trust in a trailhead lot. Riversmith has been refining it since the first version, and it shows in the details: the hinge that stays open in the wind, the lining that keeps guides quiet, three mount systems so it fits whatever is on your roof. If you fish more than one piece of water in a day, or keep a dry fly rod and a streamer rod rigged all season, it pays for itself in fishing time.

"The River Quiver keeps my rods rigged, secure, and ready the moment I pull up to the water." - Landon Mayer, guide and author
