Description
The Riversmith Travel Pack is a hard-sided fly fishing travel bag built to replace both your rod case and your carry-on. At 33 by 12 by 7.25 inches it fits most overhead bins, and inside it holds six or more 4-piece rods in socks (or two or three in tubes), the reels to match, and two or three days of clothes. Rigid, crush-proof compartments protect the rods whether it rides in the cabin or gets gate-checked. Available in Gray Cadmium and Shadow Kelp.
How It Works
The pack opens suitcase-style. Rods in socks lie in padded, crush-proof channels with their reels alongside. Three Velcro dividers let you partition the rest for clothes, boots, fly boxes and a sling pack. Zippered pockets hold a passport, keys, ID tag and documents. The zippers lock, and the bag carries as a suitcase by its handles or as a backpack on padded, breathable straps with a ventilated back panel.
Rod capacity - Most 4-piece rods up to 10 feet fit in socks. In tubes, plan on two or three. Exact capacity depends on the rod and tube diameter.
Water-resistant construction - The shell and seams shed rain and spray. It is not a submersible dry bag.
Airline note - Carry-on rules vary by airline. The Travel Pack fits most overhead bins and travels as sporting equipment or musical-instrument sized baggage. On full flights it may be gate-checked, and it is built to take that. A small lock or zip tie on the zippers is a good habit.

Why We Like It
Every destination angler has done the math on a rod tube, a carry-on and a checked duffel, and lost a rod tube at least once. The Travel Pack collapses all of that into one bag that goes in the bin above your seat. Owners have taken it to Belize, Andros and Montana with four to six rods, reels, boots, waders and a week of clothes. When something does break in transit, Riversmith has shipped replacement parts to a post office near a campsite. That is the kind of company you want behind a travel bag.
