Cooler, drier weather with occasional cold fronts. Bonefishing remains excellent throughout the season, though a passing front may temporarily slow activity. Guides have access to a wide variety of flats, allowing them to adapt to changing conditions.
One of the premier times to fish Andros. Stable weather, warming water, and consistent bonefish activity make this an outstanding season. Anglers may also encounter tarpon or permit as water temperatures rise.
Warm temperatures and higher humidity bring active bonefish throughout the extensive flats surrounding Mangrove Cay. Afternoon showers are possible but rarely impact an entire day's fishing.
Excellent bonefishing continues into the fall with warm water and relatively light fishing pressure. This period overlaps with Atlantic hurricane season, so weather should be monitored when planning travel.

Swains Cay Lodge offers a variety of comfortable accommodations to suit couples, solo anglers, and larger groups. Options range from well-appointed guest rooms and beachfront suites to a spacious three-bedroom apartment, all featuring private bathrooms, air conditioning, and furnished patios or terraces. The larger apartment also includes a kitchenette and living area, making it an excellent choice for families or fishing groups traveling together.

Meals at Swains Cay Lodge showcase fresh Bahamian flavors and hearty fare designed to keep anglers fueled for long days on the water. Breakfasts are made to order each morning, while your guide packs a cooler lunch so you can maximize your fishing time without returning to the lodge. Evenings feature fresh seafood, locally sourced meats, homemade desserts, and island favorites like fresh conch salad. After dinner, the cash bar provides the perfect place to relax, share stories from the day, and plan tomorrow's adventure. Dietary restrictions can typically be accommodated with advance notice.

Complimentary WiFi is available in the main lodge area. Although it is generally a reliable service, it can be affected by adverse weather conditions. Depending on your service plan, cell service may be available at the lodge.

Each day is carefully planned to maximize your fishing success while experiencing the best of what this destination has to offer. Itineraries are flexible based on conditions and guest preferences.
Swains Cay Lodge offers flexible package lengths, making it easy to plan anything from a long weekend to a full week on the water. Most guests begin their journey by flying into Nassau, Bahamas (NAS), before connecting to Mangrove Cay Airport (MAY) aboard a short domestic flight. These inter-island flights are coordinated by the lodge and are included in your invoiced price. Upon arrival in Mangrove Cay, a lodge representative will greet you and transfer you approximately 15 minutes to the lodge. Depending on your airline schedule, you may be able to connect to Mangrove Cay the same day you arrive in Nassau. Some itineraries, however, require an overnight stay in Nassau before or after your trip.
Each morning begins with a hearty breakfast before a short drive to the boat ramp to meet your guide for the day. Lunch is typically enjoyed on the water, allowing you to maximize your fishing time. The extensive network of flats surrounding Mangrove Cay gives your guide tremendous flexibility to adapt each day based on tides, weather, and your fishing goals. Back at the lodge each evening, unwind with fellow anglers, enjoy fresh Bahamian cuisine, and prepare for another day on the water.
After breakfast, you'll transfer back to Mangrove Cay Airport for your scheduled flight to Nassau. Depending on your international flight itinerary, you may connect directly to your flight home or spend an additional night in Nassau before departing the following day.

Each morning begins with breakfast at the lodge before heading to the flats with your guide. Most days are spent fishing from a technical poling skiff, although some locations offer opportunities to wade. Lunch is packed in a cooler and enjoyed on the water, allowing you to maximize your fishing time before returning to the lodge in the late afternoon.
No, but practicing before your trip will significantly improve your success. Most shots at Bonefish occur between 30 and 60 feet, often in windy conditions. The more confidently you can make accurate casts with minimal false casting, the more fish you'll have an opportunity to catch.
Bonefish are the primary focus and can be targeted throughout the year. Anglers may also encounter Tarpon, Permit, Barracuda, Jack Crevalle, Sharks, and other flats species depending on the season, tides, and daily fishing plan. While opportunities for these species certainly exist, Swains Cay is best known as one of the premier Bonefish destinations in the Bahamas.
Most anglers should pack a 7 or 8-weight outfit for Bonefish, along with heavier rods if they would like to pursue Tarpon or other larger species. High-quality tropical fly lines, polarized sunglasses, sun-protective clothing, and reliable rain gear are also recommended.
