Description

Sage has come out with a highly specialized series for technical situations: the Sage Igniter Fly Rod. This rod is made for tough weather conditions, strong headwinds, heavy flies, and heavy fly lines. The Igniter is designed to carry huge amounts of line at long distances to cover big water. The rod is also made with wind-cutting performance and caters to the enthusiastic streamer junkie. In classic Sage fashion, the Igniter is made with the very finest componentry, and its Chipotle blank color is an industry-first. This is not a rod for the everyman; however, if you're serious about catching big fish in nasty weather, you may just find Sage's new rod series ignites a fishy passion like never before.

Blank
KonneticHD Technology - Sage has completely redefined graphite technology with KonneticHD. By restructuring the graphite-to-resin ratio used in rod blanks, Sage has introduced a higher density fiber composite that's lighter, stronger, and more versatile on the water. With KonneticHD, the Igniter has incredibly efficient energy transfer capabilities, perfected rod stiffness, and element-defying durability. What does all this mean? Tighter loops, faster line speed, and superior foul weather casting ability.

Guides
Fuji Ceramic Stripping Guides - Fuji ceramic guides have stood the test of time as high-performance guides in fly fishing. Ceramic guides offer durability and easy line shooting capabilities.

Ultra-Light Hard Chromed Snake Guides - Snake guides are capable of holding heavy line and accommodating large sink tips. These guides provide industry-accepted functionality to the Igniter.

Reel Seat
Uplocking w/Cocobolo Wood Insert - The freshwater version of the Igniter (4-6 weights) comes with a beautiful Cocobolo wood insert that matches the color of the rod blank. The freshwater Igniter also has a gunmetal anodized aluminum uplocking component to lock down even the heaviest freshwater reels.

Uplocking w/Gunmetal Anodized Aluminum - The saltwater version of the Igniter has a reel seat that's corrosion-resistant and made for years in the salt. Anodized aluminum protects against wear, and an uplocking component adds to the functionality of the saltwater Igniter. Sage has also built an integrated hidden hook keeper into the reel seat.

Rod Tube
Powder Coated Aluminum Rod Tube - The Igniter comes in a classic black powder-coated aluminum rod tube with the easily identifiable Sage medallion. The aluminum rod tube keeps the Igniter safe during travel and time off the water.

Warranty
The Sage Lifetime Warranty - As of January 2021, every new Sage rod, blank, and Sage reel is covered by a lifetime, original owner warranty. One of the finest warranties in the business, it covers defects in materials or workmanship as well as rods that fail due to misuse, negligence, or normal wear-and-tear. Repair fees are based on the age of the rod, and Sage charges a $30 processing fee for rods that are part of the current lineup. For up-to-the-minute warranty information, please contact Sage Repairs at 888-848-7243.

Ferrari of fly rods

"This is my 5th Sage Igniter. Amazing rods, like driving a Ferrari in the hands on an expert caster. It will roll cast or rip a 70 foot dry fly cast on big water with 15 mile per hour winds with the flip of the wrist, landing a dry fly masterfully. This rod will do what you ask of it in the right hands. Otherwise this is a the stiffest fly rod on the market, an unforgiving fly rod that will magnify your casting mistakes if you make any. As for me, I LOVE my Sage Igniters. I'm an expert caster and Sage Igniter has always delivered no matter how much I push the envelope with long casts or huge fish."

Think it’ll work well for Muskie

"Super fast, super stiff rod. Put on both 400gr and 500gr line and can cast both but the heavier line slows it down a bit to make it more fun/manageable to cast. Very little feel to this rod in my opinion but it chucks a ton of line and should work well for Muskie."

Sage Igniter 6wt

"Where do I begin with this rod? I bought it for fishing the flats on the east coast of Florida. I don’t care what day it is, give it a few and the wind will blow. This rod is designed to handle the wind. It does that flawlessly. It is extremely fast but somehow maintains its feel. It isn’t overly stiff. I don’t care about the reviews elsewhere. This is a rod meant to tame winds and reach far away distances. Somehow this rod shoots like a laser. Point it at a target, double haul and shoot, what’s that cast hot its target. It throws a super tight loop, even right into the wind. It reaches distances further than I am accustomed to without the effort I’m used to putting for when trying to reach those fat shots. If you fish flats you understand the need to reach out and hit far away cruising fish, this rod can handle that. I would use this rod any place I’d throw my 7wt Igniter. I feel that confident in its abilities. It handles fish well, great feel and sensitivity. The blank itself is beautiful. If you throw streamers, sinking lines, or into the wind or need an extra 10-15 ft on your cast, I don’t know if there are many rods that compare. Any problems casting in short distances 30 ft and less are solved uplining. The rod performs well with many lines and I recommend using multiple until you find your sweet spot. Once you reach that spot on your casting stroke watch out! This rod was so good I bought a 7wt first and had to buy a 6wt for which I am reviewing. Can you guess what’s next? Yeah, an 8wt to complete what I use 99% of the time on the flats. Trident has a great program for trying out rods. I didn’t need to use it, this rod is a home run."
