Description

With long fibers that are strong and durable, Wapsi's Elk Rump Hair is the perfect choice for tying large downwing dry flies and extended bodies. Wapsi's Elk Rump patches are very high-quality and come in a ton of colors so you can fine-tune your patterns exactly how you like. Coming from the rump of an elk, these hairs are hollow and provide excellent buoyancy. A versatile material, you can turn to Elk Rump Hair whether you're getting ready for the salmon fly hatch on the Henry's Fork or winding segmented bodies on tiny midge emergers.

Uses

Elk Rump Hair provides great versatility whether you're tying terrestrials, dry flies, or even small nymphs and emergers. Since the fibers are so long and buoyant, they make for great wings and extended bodies on dry flies, however, single hairs can also be wound to form naturally-segmented bodies.

Comparisons

Elk Rump Hair is often compared to the body hair found on an elk. While both of these hairs are commonly used on dry flies and offer great buoyancy and durability, the key difference is that Elk Body Hair tends to be a lot shorter with just a bit less trapped hair. The shorter hair works perfectly for smaller patterns, but should you need to tie something a bit larger, then the Rump Hair is certainly the way to go.
