Description
The St. Croix Physyx Spey Fly Rod brings St. Croix's flagship rod science to the two-handed game. St. Croix conceived, engineered, and precision-crafted Physyx Spey to elevate the spey-casting experience with science that supports angler ability. The family covers five 4-piece rods, from a 12'1" 5-weight for tailwater trout and summer steelhead to a 12'8" 8-weight for winter-run fish on big water. Every model is built in Park Falls, Wisconsin.
Blank
SCVI Carbon with MITO Graphene - The blank starts with St. Croix's super-high-modulus, high-strain SCVI carbon. Each model's blank is refined with additional carbon materials to yield an individualized action with the right balance of flex, power, and strength. MITO Graphene applied at critical locations increases recovery speed and torsional rigidity, which maximizes loop stability and accuracy.
Construction Technologies - Integrated Poly Curve (IPC) mandrel tooling improves energy transfer. Advanced Reinforcing Technology (ART) adds an exotic carbon fiber scrim for a 10x increase in strength. The Fortified Resin System (FRS) produces blanks tested to be 33% stronger than blanks built with standard resins. Taper Enhancement Technology (TET) and Slim-Profile Ferrules (SPF) keep the taper smooth across all four sections.
Guides
Stripping Guides - Fuji K Series Titanium stripping guides with Torzite rings. Torzite is thin, hard, and friction-free, so shooting heads and running line clear the rod with less drag.
Snake Guides - Hard chrome snake guides stand up to constant running-line wear.
Reel Seat
Machined Aluminum, Downlocking - A custom machined-aluminum downlocking reel seat with an aluminum insert keeps the reel low for balance with spey reels and running-line management.
Handle
Two-Handed Grips - Flor-grade cork, modified full wells handles with composite-cork accents and a composite-cork fighting butt.
Rod Tube
Aluminum Tube - Each rod ships in an aluminum rod tube with a rod sock.
Warranty
St. Croix backs Physyx Spey with a 15-year warranty and Superstar Service.
