"There are actually two line sizes that were purchased on this visit. One was . 032” and the other . 035” line diameter. The reason for the 4 Star rating has nothing to do with the lines themselves just the application in this review. These are wonderful lines because of the lack of coiling memory. I have used these lines for years and recommended them to others when used for Striper fishing. In that application they are one of the best running lines you can buy and will still be my number one choice in the future! I have to note that the type of casting was underhand casting with heavier shooting heads and not Spey casting with 12’6’ to 13’ Spey rod. I know, I know those of you coming late to the party are thinking why not the shorter switch rods. To be honest my targeted species was Striped Bass and the only thing available at the time in my area of the country was Spey Rods. This time I was using it for the much lighter heads in the 4wt range switch rods for Spey casting. waa limited due to the greater diameter of the running line. . This wasn’t a complete surprise and shouldn’t have been. Many years now of choosing running lines based on the head weights I should know better. I was hoping the braided line would have been enough to compensate for the greater line thickness. Generally the braided line reduces the friction when passing though the guides. The greatest factor when choosing any running line to reduce friction is based not only on the running lines thickness but also the guide sizes of the rod it’s passing through. If the guides are too small then the line passing through each guide has a cumulative slowing effect along the rod length. If I was to do it all over again I would go with the smaller line diameters in the . 028” range for the three and four weight rods. Once again I would also be looking at the guide diameters closely when buying any rod. Rod manufacturers guide diameters can be different along with their placement. Only time and experience using different rods will determine what works for you. I can’t help anyone with that decision. I can only tell you what works for me. At the end of the day these are great lines for the application I used them for and will continue field testing them in the Spey Rod application. There will probably be future reviews. Standby"
