Description
Scientific Anglers Amplitude Smooth Trout is designed for precise and delicate, dry fly presentations for trout. The smooth-running line delivers flies delicately and efficiently at longer distances so that you can let the line do the work for you when you're targeting finicky trout. Plus, the line's smooth texture doesn't chew up guides or your stripping finger. This line makes smooth presentations to wary trout at medium-to-long distances a breeze, even on the toughest days. If you're an avid trout angler or a dry fly fanatic, this is one of the best trout-specific lines on the market.
Features
AST Plus Slickness - SA has built a number of important features into this line. AST Plus Slickness allows anglers to quickly shoot line with friction-minimizing performance. Welded loops on both ends allow easy leader/backing attachment. A braided multifilament core is strong and supple for versatility and durability. The line comes in two different color schemes so that you can choose the line that camouflages best on the river you're fishing.
Uses
Dry Flies, Smaller Nymphs, Medium-to-Long Distances - This line is designed specifically for chasing trout. While SA markets it as a line that 'Excels in medium-to-long distances with dry flies and smaller nymphs and streamers', it's really a line that's made for dry fly fishing. You can throw some larger flies with it, but you'll find that this line features the best performance with small flies. Choose this line on larger western tailwaters, medium-sized eastern rivers, and for international trout fishing with dry flies (New Zealand, South America, Alaska, etc.).
Temp
Cold/Moderate - This line is made to be used in cold and moderate climates, including freshwater streams and rivers, lakes almost any climate. That being said, this line will turn limp in tropical climates and isn't meant to be used in high heat.
Taper/Weight
Revised Compound Taper - The Amplitude Trout is true-to-lineweight and features a revised compound taper that's built for delicate deliveries. The 5wt version of the line features an extra-long head at 68 feet and is built to carry a lot of line in the air. This is a line that is (relatively) lightweight with a 140-grain, 9.1g headÉ, identical to the AFFTA standard for a 5wt line.
