Description

The Rio Elite Anadromous Advantage solves an old argument in two-handed fishing: integrated lines cast better, interchangeable tips fish better. This one gives you both, pairing the smooth castability of a traditional integrated spey line with a loop-to-loop tip system, and it ships with a 12 foot floating MDC tip in the box. With total head lengths past 40 feet, it is aimed squarely at medium to large river systems where you need to reach across a run and still turn over whatever fly the day calls for.

Best For

Medium to large anadromous rivers - This is a line for water where the fish are not close and the swing is long. The 40 plus foot head carries enough mass to make a genuine long cast off a sustained anchor, and the integrated design means you are not fighting a hinge point every time the line loads. Steelhead and salmon anglers working big classic runs are the target here.

Fly and depth versatility - The tip system is the point. Run the included floating MDC tip for a waking fly or a soft-hackle near the surface, then swap to a sinking MDC or Classic tip when the water drops or the fish move down. Color-coded loops make it easy to identify which tip sizes match, so you are not squinting at diameters on a cold morning.

Temperature and Conditions

This is a coldwater line, built for the temperate and cold river systems where anadromous fish live. The coating and core are formulated to stay supple in cold air and cold water, so it will not hold coils in November the way a tropical line would. Take it somewhere genuinely hot and the coating will feel soft and tacky, which is not what it is for.

Taper, Weight and Design

Total head length, including the 12 foot MDC tip, runs from 42 feet at #6/7 up to 46 feet at #10+. That length is the reason the line wants a rod of 12.5 feet or longer: shorter two-handers cannot manage the D-loop a head this long needs. Head weights run 500 grains at #6/7 to 720 grains at #10+, so the size you pick is really a grain-weight decision matched to your rod. Pair #6/7 and #7/8 lines with #7/8 tips, and pair #8/9, #9/10 and #10+ lines with #9 plus tips, in both MDC and Classic.

Features

SlickCast - Rio's most durable low-friction coating. On a long-head spey line this matters more than it does on a short head, because you are shooting a lot of running line through the guides on every cast.

DirectCore - A supple core with low stretch and low memory, which keeps the line straight in cold conditions and transmits the take directly to your hand on a tight-line swing.

Loading Point - A visual mark that shows you exactly how much head to have outside the tip-top before you set your anchor. On a 40 plus foot head, being consistently on the loading point is the single biggest factor in whether the cast goes.

EasyID and Welded Loops - Line size printed on the line, and welded loops front and back so tip changes and backing connections need no knots.
