Krka River Lodge is a ten-room boutique fishing lodge located beside the spring-fed Krka River in southeastern Slovenia. Flexible packages generally include four to seven nights, three to six guided fishing days, private accommodations, meals, beverages, fishing licenses, equipment, daily fishing transportation, and round-trip transfers from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport. Some fisheries open during March, while the primary Slovenian fly-fishing season begins around April. Spring brings cool water, variable flows, and opportunities with nymphs, streamers, midges, and early mayflies. Opening dates and permitted methods vary by river, so the lodge confirms the available waters for each trip.
Late spring and early summer generally provide the broadest combination of comfortable temperatures, active insect life, and access to both karst and alpine rivers. Mayflies, caddis, and other aquatic insects can create excellent dry-fly opportunities, although rainfall and snowmelt may temporarily raise individual rivers.
Summer provides long days and access throughout the country. Early morning fishing, dry flies, terrestrial patterns, and technical sight-fishing can all be important. Clear water, warm temperatures, recreational traffic, and fishing pressure can make some rivers more demanding, while cooler alpine and spring-fed waters provide alternatives.
Cooler water and lower seasonal traffic make autumn particularly attractive. Grayling become an important target, while Trout may respond to small dry flies, nymphs, and streamers. Foliage, shorter days, rain, and changing river-specific closures must all be considered.
Huchen fishing is a separate autumn and winter pursuit built around large flies, heavy tackle, cold weather, and sustained casting. The general legal season runs from October 1 through February 14, but individual fisheries may open later, close earlier, or impose special guide, companion, and equipment requirements. Even experienced anglers may fish for multiple days without an encounter.

Krka River Lodge contains ten private guest rooms with en-suite bathrooms, including two compact single rooms and eight larger double rooms suitable for couples or single occupancy. Rooms combine traditional wood and stone details with modern furnishings, comfortable bedding, work surfaces, and daily housekeeping. Common areas include a guest lounge with a Slovenian fireplace, communal dining space, an on-site bar, and an outdoor terrace overlooking the Krka River. On-site laundry service is included with fishing packages.
Food
Breakfast is served before the fishing day, and guides provide a prepared picnic or riverside lunch. Evening meals may be served at the lodge or incorporated into visits to selected local restaurants, depending on the itinerary. Menus emphasize fresh regional ingredients, traditional Slovenian dishes, local cheeses, cured meats, seasonal produce, pastries, wine, and craft beer. Standard beverages and the lodge bar are included with all-inclusive packages. Dietary restrictions can generally be accommodated with advance notice.

9-Day Itinerary
Each day is carefully planned to maximize your fishing success while experiencing the best of what this destination has to offer. Itineraries are flexible based on conditions and guest preferences.
Most U.S. travelers depart on an overnight flight and arrive in Europe the following day. Ljubljana has no nonstop service from the United States, so itineraries normally connect through a major European hub such as Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Paris, Amsterdam, or Istanbul. Upon arrival at Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, meet the lodge representative for the included 45- to 60-minute transfer to Krka River Lodge. Zagreb, Trieste, and Venice are useful alternatives, but transfers from those airports require an additional charge. Settle into your private room before dinner and an introduction to the week’s fishing.
After breakfast, meet your guide and review weather, river conditions, target species, and the day’s destination. Two anglers normally share each guide, although private guiding is available for a supplement. Most fishing is conducted by wading or from the bank, with the guide providing all scheduled transportation, licenses, equipment, and flies. The Krka may be fished directly from the lodge area, while other days can explore karst or alpine rivers elsewhere in Slovenia. A prepared lunch is served during the fishing day. The Soča Valley and Lepena River require considerably longer travel and may involve an overnight stay if included in the itinerary. Return to the lodge or continue to a selected local restaurant for dinner.
After breakfast, transfer to Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport for the connecting flights home. The Ljubljana transfer is included with the standard package. Guests departing from Zagreb, Trieste, Venice, or another airport should confirm the transfer schedule and applicable supplement before finalizing flights.

Most fisheries are within approximately one to 1.5 hours, while the Soča Valley and Lepena are more than two hours away and may require a long day or overnight stay. No specific river is guaranteed before conditions are evaluated.
Two anglers normally share an English-speaking guide. After breakfast, the guide selects the destination based on water conditions, target species, angler ability, and travel time. Many Slovenian fisheries require a single barbless fly, but regulations vary by permit and water. Guests must follow the specific rules explained by their guide.

Most premium Trout fishing is conducted on public water under catch-and-release rules, but guests must follow the exact regulations associated with each permit and their guide’s instructions.
Most U.S. travelers take an overnight flight and connect through a major European hub before continuing to Ljubljana. Round-trip transfers from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport are included. Zagreb and Trieste are approximately 1.25 hours from the lodge, while Venice is approximately 2.75 to 3 hours away, and transfers from those airports carry an additional charge.
