Longer days and gradually warming temperatures open a broader range of fishing across the Barrancoso River, Lago Strobel, Moro Creek, and nearby lagoons. Anglers can experience a varied mix of river, lake, and smaller-water opportunities.
As water levels drop, trout become more widely distributed along Lago Strobel’s shoreline and around the lower Barrancoso. The fishing can become more technical, with accurate presentations, longer leaders, and sight fishing playing a larger role.
Cooling temperatures and autumn rains bring renewed activity to the Barrancoso River and nearby areas of Lago Strobel. Trout feed heavily before winter, while increased river flows can draw another push of large fish into the system.

Jurassic Lake Lodge accommodates up to 10 anglers in a combination of single- and double-occupancy rooms. Each room includes a private bathroom and hot shower, providing a comfortable retreat in an otherwise remote and rugged corner of Patagonia. The lodge’s main gathering area overlooks Lago Strobel and the mouth of the Barrancoso River, allowing guests to relax within sight of the fishery. Comfortable common spaces and a well-stocked bar provide a welcoming setting for unwinding with fellow anglers after a day on the water.
Food
Meals are prepared by the lodge’s dedicated chef and feature hearty Argentine and Patagonian cuisine. Guests can expect generous meals that include traditional asados, locally raised Patagonian lamb, and other regional dishes accompanied by a selection of Argentine wines. Beer, wine, and standard alcoholic beverages are included in the package. The lodge also maintains an extensive collection of single-malt and blended whiskies, which are available for purchase by the glass or bottle.
Connectivity
Jurassic Lake Lodge offers complimentary 24-hour Starlink WiFi and around-the-clock electricity supplied by a solar power system. There is no cellular service in the area, but guests can communicate through WhatsApp, Messenger, and other internet-based applications. A satellite phone is maintained for emergency use.

11-Day Itinerary
Each day is carefully planned to maximize your fishing success while experiencing the best of what this destination has to offer. Itineraries are flexible based on conditions and guest preferences.
A full-week trip at Jurassic Lake Lodge runs from Saturday to Saturday. Most travelers depart home on Thursday evening and arrive in Buenos Aires on Friday morning. After clearing customs at Ezeiza International Airport (EZE), you will connect to a domestic flight to El Calafate (FTE). Many domestic flights depart from Jorge Newbery Airport (AEP), so an airport transfer may be required. When changing airports, travelers should allow at least four hours between flights. Upon arrival in El Calafate, you will be transferred to your prearranged hotel for the night. Lodging and meals in El Calafate are not included in the fishing package.
On Saturday morning, you will be picked up from your hotel for the approximately six-hour ground transfer to Jurassic Lake Lodge. An optional one-hour charter flight may also be available at an additional cost, landing at a private airstrip approximately 15 minutes from the lodge. After arriving, you will settle into your room, meet the guides, prepare your equipment, and receive an introduction to the fishing program. The afternoon is reserved for a relaxed first fishing session, allowing you to become familiar with the water and lodge routine.
The next six days are dedicated to guided fishing on Lago Strobel, the Barrancoso River, and other available waters on the lodge property. Anglers typically fish morning and afternoon sessions, rotating among different beats based on weather, water conditions, and guide recommendations. Each day begins with breakfast before heading to the water. Guests return to the lodge for lunch before fishing through the afternoon. In the evening, you can unwind over a hearty dinner, Argentine wine, and time with fellow anglers before preparing for the following day.
After breakfast on Saturday morning, you will begin the return trip to El Calafate by ground transfer. An optional charter flight may also be available at an additional cost. Return flights from El Calafate to Buenos Aires should be scheduled no earlier than 3:00 PM to provide sufficient time for the transfer and potential weather delays. Depending on your international flight schedule, you may continue home that evening or spend the night in Buenos Aires.
If an overnight stay is required, you will transfer to Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) for your return flight home. Exact travel arrangements may vary depending on domestic and international airline schedules.

While no size can be guaranteed, Lago Strobel offers one of the best opportunities anywhere to consistently target wild, double-digit Rainbow Trout.
Anglers use dry flies, nymphs, streamers, and scud patterns throughout Lago Strobel, the Barrancoso River, Moro Creek, and nearby lagoons. Depending on the season and conditions, the fishing can include sight casting, dead-drifting nymphs, slowly retrieving streamers, and presenting dry flies to rising or cruising trout.
A 7- or 8-weight rod is recommended for Lago Strobel and the lower Barrancoso River, while a 4- or 5-weight is useful on the middle and upper river. Anglers should bring floating, intermediate, and sink-tip lines, along with a large-arbor reel carrying ample backing. Two-handed rods are optional rather than necessary.
Jurassic Lake Lodge can accommodate anglers with a range of experience levels, and the guides can adjust techniques and water selection accordingly. However, the Patagonian wind and the exceptional size of the trout can make the fishing demanding. Practicing your casting in windy conditions before the trip will help you get more from the experience.
All fishing is done while wading or standing along the bank rather than from boats. Several productive beats are within a short walk of the lodge, while vehicles are used to reach more distant sections of the property. Anglers should be comfortable walking over uneven terrain and standing or wading for extended periods.
Patagonian weather is highly variable, and strong winds are possible throughout the season. Early- and late-season trips can bring cold temperatures, and snow is possible during the autumn months. Anglers should pack windproof outerwear, rain protection, warm layers, gloves, and sun protection regardless of their travel dates.
Jurassic Lake Lodge offers 7-night, 4-night, and 3-night programs. Current published rates are $8,000 for 7 nights and 6.5 fishing days, $5,200 for 4 nights and 3.5 fishing days, and $4,200 for 3 nights and 2.5 fishing days. This program is best suited to dedicated anglers and fishing-oriented groups. The lodge is extremely remote, and there are no organized activities beyond fishing, relaxing at the lodge, and enjoying the surrounding Patagonian landscape.
