Description
The Greys Pace Fly Reel is the reel that quietly outperforms its price tag. Most anglers building a first serious outfit, or a backup that will not embarrass itself, end up choosing between a reel that feels cheap and one that costs more than the rod. The Pace sidesteps that: it pairs a die-cast frame with a bar-stock drag core and a multi-pad disc system, so the parts that actually matter under load are built the way a much more expensive reel would build them. It is a straightforward, dependable trout and light salt reel for anglers who want refined performance well beyond the price point.
Design
Large Arbour, Narrow Spool - The Pace is built on a large-arbour platform for fast line pickup and reduced line memory, which is what you want when a fish turns and runs back at you. The spool profile is deliberately narrow to help prevent line stacking, so the line lays evenly across the arbour instead of piling on one side during a fast retrieve. Generous porting through the frame and spool keeps the reel light and promotes faster drying after a day on the water.
Finish
The Pace is finished in a modern carbon colourway with a clean, lightweight look that suits both a graphite trout rod and a light salt setup.
Materials
Die-Cast Frame with Bar-Stock Drag Core - The frame is die-cast, which is how Greys holds the price down, but the drag core is machined bar stock. That combination is the reel's central design decision: die casting is perfectly adequate for the structure, while the drag is the component that has to hold tolerance under heat and load, so it gets the stronger, more rigid material.
Drag
Type - The Pace uses a multi-pad disc drag in an enclosed housing. Enclosing the drag improves protection from grit and water and helps long-term reliability, which is the usual failure point on reels at this price. Maximum drag runs 1.5lb on the 3/4, 2lb on the 5/6 and 7/8, and 4lb on the 9/10.
Materials - The multi-pad disc stack sits on a bar-stock drag core and delivers consistent, smooth control through a run rather than the grabby start-up you get from a simpler system.
Arbor Size
Large Arbour - The large-arbour design speeds line pickup and reduces line memory, so your line lies flatter on the water and you can recover slack quickly when a fish changes direction.
Warranty
Greys fly reels are backed by the manufacturer against defects in materials and workmanship. Registered reels are covered for five years from the date of original purchase, and registration must be completed with Greys within 60 days of purchase.
