Description
The Greys Comp-Flex Fly Rod is what happens when the people who fish competitions get to specify the rod. Modern nymphing lives and dies on contact: the difference between a drift that reads every tick of the bottom and one that misses the take is usually the rod, not the angler. The Comp-Flex actions were refined with world-class competition anglers and purpose-built for modern nymphing and technical river fishing, and the series carries a set of features you rarely see outside a custom build, including industry-first bead ratings and measurement marks printed on the blank. It is a specialist tool, and it is unusually explicit about what each rod in the range is meant to do.
Blank
Competition-Developed Actions - Every taper was refined with world-class competition anglers and optimised for modern nymphing and technical river fishing. The design pairs strong butt sections with soft, forgiving tips, which is the combination that lets you protect fine tippet on the take and still turn a good fish in current.
Industry-First Bead Ratings - Each rod carries a recommended tungsten bead size for optimal rod loading. Instead of guessing whether your point fly is heavy enough to load the tip, the rod tells you what it wants.
Integrated Measurement Marks - The blank is marked at 20, 30, 40 and 50cm for fish measurement and fly spacing, so you can set your dropper distances and measure a fish without carrying a tape.
Stealthy Matte Finish - The dark grey blank is finished matte to reduce glare, and the unground ridges minimise line stick, which keeps the leader running clean when you are managing a long drift.
Guides
Enhanced Contact and Control - Guide placement across the series is designed to maintain direct connection to the flies, which is the whole point of a tight-line rod. It keeps the sag out of the system between the tip and the sighter.
Reel Seat
Down-Locking Reel Seat - The Comp-Flex uses a down-locking reel seat to optimise long-rod balance. Moving the reel back shifts the balance point toward your hand, which is what makes a 10ft 6in or 11ft rod feel manageable held high through a long day of nymphing.
Warranty
Greys offers a lifetime warranty on their rod series. To be eligible you must register your rod within 60 days of ownership. The warranty requires a fee to process, and it covers the repair or replacement, at Greys' discretion, of your rod for damage or broken and defective sections.
