Description

Fish-Skull Faux Bucktail is a unique alternative to a natural bucktail. It has the look and feel of real bucktail but is incredibly long and consistent. Faux Bucktail is also solid, so it will not flare, and it sinks faster. Because of its synthetic nature, it is also wicked durable and stands up to the toothiest fish.

Uses

Patterns and Tying Techniques - You can use Faux bucktail as a direct substitute in most patterns that call for bucktail. It can also be used to wrap “quill” bodies on nymphs and dry flies. Another great use for Faux bucktail is for wing cases on nymphs.

Comparisons

Fish-Skull Faux Bucktail vs Bucktail - Both materials have a similar look and feel with built-in taper. Faux Bucktail really shines when you need uniformity and consistency, especially in length. Faux Bucktail is a solid material, and because of that, it will not flare. This can make it easier to work with, but precludes its use in certain patterns like Bulk Head Hollow Feyes.

Example Flies

Patterns - Faux Bucktail is a great choice for Clouser Minnows, Deceivers, and other saltwater streamers that require long bucktail. Faux Bucktail can also be used for wing cases on nymphs like the Hare's Ear. It works great for pike flies like the Flash Tail.

The consistency and grab of the material is fine even with monofilament thread

"In my opinion, consistency of material is important (material consistency and color). Use with monofilament thread has been very good."
