The season opens with long days, cool spring weather, and the Río Traful typically running high and fast with snowmelt. Conditions can limit wading access and disperse fish throughout the river, making this the most physically and technically demanding part of the season. Heavier rods, sinking lines, streamers, and nymphs are generally favored until flows begin receding through December.
By early to mid-January, the Traful generally begins settling into more approachable summer conditions, although timing depends heavily on winter snowfall. Clearer water and improved wading create better opportunities to locate individual fish and make careful presentations. Nymphs and streamers remain effective, while dry-fly fishing becomes increasingly important as the season progresses.
March brings cooler mornings, stable water conditions, and the first signs of autumn in the Traful Valley. Dry flies can remain productive during warmer portions of the day, while nymphs and streamers provide versatile options in the river’s pools and faster runs. Autumn fish movement can also increase the chance of encountering the Traful’s elusive landlocked salmon and larger Brown Trout.
The final month of the season offers cool weather, changing foliage, shorter days, and a quiet atmosphere. Autumn rains can raise the river and encourage fish to move between the Traful system’s lakes and river habitat. Streamers and nymphs become especially important, with migrating landlocked salmon and increasingly aggressive Brown Trout providing compelling targets through the season’s April 30 closing date.

Accommodations
Estancia Arroyo Verde offers six individually decorated guest rooms, including four in the main lodge and two suites in an adjacent building. Each room features a private bathroom, heating, and flexible bedding for single, twin, or double occupancy. The traditional wood-and-stone lodge includes a fireside living room, dining room, sunroom, library, and bar, all overlooking the gardens and surrounding Traful Valley. A separate one-bedroom cabin above Lago Traful may also be available for guests seeking additional privacy.
Food
Meals at Arroyo Verde combine traditional Argentine cooking with international and regional dishes, all prepared in-house. Breakfasts are followed by three-course lunches and dinners, with menus featuring homemade soups, empanadas, pasta, fish, chicken, and classic desserts. Outdoor lunches are a highlight during pleasant weather, particularly traditional asados featuring Patagonian lamb, beef, sausages, roasted vegetables, salads, and homemade bread. Snacks and appetizers are commonly served before meals, and the lodge maintains an open bar with Argentine wines, cocktails, and other beverages.
Connectivity
Wi-Fi is available in certain areas of the lodge but should not be expected in every guest room or throughout the property. Cellular reception is limited and inconsistent due to the estancia’s remote location and surrounding mountains. Each day is carefully planned to maximize your fishing success while experiencing the best of what this destination has to offer. Itineraries are flexible based on conditions and guest preferences.
A standard week at Estancia Arroyo Verde typically includes seven nights at the lodge and six guided fishing days, although shorter and longer stays can be arranged. Travel generally begins with an overnight flight from home to Buenos Aires International Airport (EZE). After arriving the following morning, you will transfer to a prearranged downtown hotel and spend the remainder of the day exploring or relaxing in Buenos Aires.
After breakfast, you will transfer to Jorge Newbery Airport (AEP) for the approximately two-hour flight to San Carlos de Bariloche Airport (BRC). An Estancia Arroyo Verde representative will meet you upon arrival for the scenic 1.5-hour drive into the Río Traful Valley. After settling into your room, you can enjoy the estancia grounds, cocktails, and dinner before the fishing program begins.
Each fishing day begins with breakfast before meeting your guide and heading to the Río Traful. The program is primarily centered around walk-and-wade fishing on approximately 10 miles of private river, with daily plans adjusted to water conditions and angler goals. Lunch may be served beside the river or back at the estancia, sometimes featuring a traditional Argentine asado. After fishing, guests return to the lodge for drinks, a three-course dinner, and time around the fireplace.
After breakfast, you will depart the estancia for the approximately 1.5-hour transfer to San Carlos de Bariloche Airport. From there, you will fly to Buenos Aires and transfer to a prearranged hotel for one final night in the city.
After checking out of your hotel, you will transfer to Buenos Aires International Airport for your overnight flight home, typically arriving the following day.
