Spring brings longer days, rising temperatures, and generally higher river flows influenced by snowmelt. Conditions vary from year to year, making flexibility important. Float fishing often allows anglers to cover productive water, while side channels and select sections of the Chimehuín may offer wading opportunities. Streamers, nymphs, large dry flies, and dry-dropper rigs are commonly used during this part of the season.
Summer typically brings the warmest and most consistent conditions of the season. As flows recede, more of the Chimehuín’s channels and riffles become accessible for wading, while the larger Collón Curá remains well suited to float fishing. Caddis, mayflies, hoppers, beetles, and other terrestrials create opportunities to fish dry flies, although dry-dropper rigs, nymphs, and streamers remain effective.
March marks the transition from summer into fall, with cooler mornings and generally low, clear flows. The lodge’s private access becomes especially valuable as shallow channels and wadeable sections remain fishable even when some water is too low to float. Dry flies, terrestrials, and nymphs can remain productive, while streamers provide another option for covering deeper runs, banks, and lagoons.
Autumn brings cooler temperatures, changing foliage, and some of the lowest flows of the season. Wade fishing remains an important part of the program, particularly throughout the Chimehuín’s channels and shallower sections. Smaller mayfly patterns may be used during hatches, while nymphs and streamers become increasingly important as trout feed ahead of winter and Brown Trout approach their spawning season.

Tres Rios Lodge accommodates a maximum of eight guests in three spacious ensuite rooms in the main lodge and a separate master suite offering additional privacy. The intimate guest capacity creates a quiet, personalized atmosphere throughout the week. The lodge features a comfortable living room, fireplace, full bar, and adjoining dining room, along with an outdoor terrace and asado area overlooking the surrounding river valley. A dedicated mudroom provides space for storing and drying fishing equipment. Although entirely off-grid, the lodge generates electricity through solar panels and wind power while maintaining the comforts expected from a high-end fishing lodge.
Food
Dining is an important part of the Tres Rios experience. The lodge’s chefs prepare a combination of Argentine specialties and gourmet international dishes using locally sourced meats, vegetables, and other fresh ingredients. Breakfast is served before fishing, while guides provide substantial streamside lunches during the day. Evening meals may include traditional asados, regional dishes, and house-made desserts, accompanied by a carefully selected assortment of Argentine wines. Guests also have access to the lodge’s full bar throughout their stay.
Connectivity
Complimentary WiFi is available at Tres Rios Lodge. Because the property is remotely located and operates entirely off-grid, connectivity may be slower or less reliable than guests are accustomed to at home. Cell service should not be relied upon during the trip.

Each day is carefully planned to maximize your fishing success while experiencing the best of what this destination has to offer. Itineraries are flexible based on conditions and guest preferences.
A week-long trip at Tres Rios Lodge typically runs from Saturday to Saturday, although shorter and longer programs may be arranged. Travel generally begins with an overnight flight to Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires. After arriving on Friday morning, you will transfer to your prearranged hotel and spend one night in the city. Some travelers choose to arrive earlier and spend additional time exploring Buenos Aires.
On Saturday morning, you will transfer to the appropriate Buenos Aires airport for your flight to Chapelco Airport (CPC), which serves San Martín de los Andes and Junín de los Andes. Most domestic flights depart from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP), although schedules may occasionally use Ezeiza International Airport (EZE). Upon arrival at Chapelco, a representative will meet you for the approximately 45-minute drive to Tres Rios Lodge. After settling in, you will enjoy dinner and prepare for the week ahead.
Each fishing day begins with breakfast at the lodge before departing with your guide. Depending on conditions and the day’s objectives, you may float, walk and wade, or combine both approaches while fishing the Chimehuín, Aluminé, and Collón Curá river systems. Lunch is served on the water, followed by an afternoon fishing session. In the evening, you will return to the lodge to relax over dinner, Argentine wine, and conversation with fellow guests.
After breakfast on Saturday morning, you will transfer approximately 45 minutes back to Chapelco Airport (CPC) for your flight to Buenos Aires. Flights may arrive at either Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP) or Ezeiza International Airport (EZE), depending on the schedule. Most travelers spend a final night in Buenos Aires before departing Argentina the following day.
You will transfer from your hotel to the appropriate Buenos Aires airport for your international flight home, generally departing from Ezeiza International Airport (EZE).
