A fly developed by Ralph Cutter, the E/C Caddis, is designed to be a low-riding fly to imitate emerging or crippled Caddis. The two-tone body color imitates a Caddis shedding its nymphal shuck, and the small wing helps it sit low in the water. Ralph Cutter originally developed this pattern for the West Coast of the US, but it works well across the country and beyond during Caddis hatches on a variety of rivers. This is a great trout fly for the summer months when fish are a little warier after being fished over by anglers in high-pressure fisheries. It's also a great bug to throw when trout are eating insects just under the surface, and a traditional high-floating Caddis pattern isn't doing the job.
