"Picked it up expecting a value rod and put it down thinking about a Helios D. That's not a throwaway comparison — the two share the thing that matters, which is a tip that stops when you tell it to. Low tip mass, clean recovery, no residual wobble bleeding into the loop. Sweet in hand, and sweet is a word I don't hand out. Trident lists swing weight around 70 gm², which is about the lightest number going in an 8wt, and it feels like it. The rod tracks and it carries. It'll hold a long line in the air and deliver it without asking you to shoot for the last twenty feet — which is the whole test for me. Accuracy at 40 to 60 feet is where it lives, and that's where redfish happen."

Atlas 8wt

"I bought this rod a while ago but wanted to get a fish on it before leaving a review. Initial impressions are that this rod is very well built. Components are more premium than similar rods in the same price range. The action is fairly stiff, but it casts great. The rod was able to cast a crab line that another 8wt I have struggled to shoot out. It casts very well with an Outbound short intermediate line. I was able to hook onto a 28" stripped bass and the rod had enough power to handle the fish. It wasn't a huge fish, but the rod let me stay in control. I ordered up an extra tip section to have as a back up for $50, Can't beat the price to quality ratio here. I would recommend this rod to anyone looking for an 8wt fly rod that won't break the bank."

Broke on first use

"First time I used this rod I hooked into a 3 lb bonefish. The rod broke six inches under the tip. Warranty information- send entire rod back and pay $200. Of course a new rod section only costs which $50 which is a good option to have, but to have a supposedly good quality rod break on the first fish I've hooked and zero effort from Atlas to make things right other than to e mail me a link with their terrible general warranty information? Go ahead and spend a couple hundred more, get a legitimate high quality rod and be happy with it."
