The Ahrex BC Game Changer Hooks (XO784) are purpose-built for articulated, multi-segment Game Changer style flies. Designed in close collaboration with Blane Chocklett, they were the first hooks made to drop straight into the Game Changer shank system, which is why they are sized by shank length in millimeters rather than by conventional hook numbers. A wide gap keeps bulky bodies and sweeping tails from choking the point, a stinger-style upturned point drives home on short strikes, and an oversized eye lets the hook hinge freely off a shank or wire loop. Heavy high-carbon wire and a black nickel finish hold up to the side-loading and torque that come from long, linked sections in both fresh and salt water.

Sizing
These hooks are not sized like standard hooks. The number is the shank length in millimeters, matched to the Game Changer shank system, so a 20mm hook has a 20mm shank rather than being a “size 20.” Pick the hook to match the segment length you are chaining it to. Hooks per pack decrease as the size increases:
- 8mm, 12mm, 16mm — 15 per pack
- 20mm, 25mm, 30mm — 12 per pack

How to Use
Pick a shank length that matches the overall silhouette: the shorter 8–16mm hooks for Micro and Finesse Changers, the 20–40mm range for standard builds, and 55–80mm for big-water predator flies. Start by tying the tail and rear body on the hook while keeping the hook gap clear; then chain forward with your chosen articulation system (Articulated Fish-Spines, wire loops, or micro shanks) until you reach the line tie. When placing bulkheads or heads, check the hook’s orientation and weight the fly so it tracks true—add lead wraps, a small keel, or a weighted head if needed. For bite guards or stingers, use light 7-strand wire or 25–40 lb mono to link segments without restricting movement.
Keep materials sparse at the bend, build density at the shoulders for the “hinge” effect, and test swim the fly in a sink or bucket to verify it walks and kicks without rolling.
