Buy 12+ Flies, Get a Fly Box for $5
Description
Probably one of the most popular dry flies around, the Adams Dry Fly has been fooling fish for almost the last century. The Adams was First fished by Charlie on the Boardman River in Traverse City, Michigan, as an adult mayfly imitation, the Adams produced immediately, and when Halladay got the news, he named the fly after Charlie. Fast forward almost a hundred years later, and the Adams is relatively unchanged (still sporting a brown and grizzly hackle with a grey dubbed body and grizzly feather wings) and has been effectively fished to match a number of insects ranging from Slate Drakes, BWOs, and other mayflies, as well as various species of caddisflies and even adult midges when used in small sizes.
Considering the Adams has been around for so long, it's hard to find a setting where you can't fish it effectively--long pools with hatching mayflies, searching fast freestone runs, or even casting to rising trout in a pond are all great places to start, and the Adams is a fly that's wise to carry from early spring well into the end of fall.
