Whether you're matching a hatch of golden stoneflies, feeding fish a hopper, or just want to drum something up to the surface of a quick set of riffles, the Yellow Sally Dry Fly can do it all. Tied similarly to the ever-popular Stimulator Fly, the Yellow Sally has an elk hair tail and wing, dubbed body palmered with hackle, and a dubbed and hackled thorax. You can get away with fishing this fly as an attractor or matching things like Yellow Sallies, grasshoppers, and even some caddis, and it's a fly with enough buoyancy to get through the rough white water.
The Yellow Sally is a fly that you can start to fish around the middle of spring all the way through fall, and it produces almost anywhere you take it, from an alpine lake to a fast western river. A fun fly to fish on its own or with a dropper tied below, the Yellow Sally will fool everything from wild brookies to bass picking off grasshoppers.
