Trip Summary
The Silver Bow Club is a family-owned, 1,800-acre guest ranch in Divide, Montana, with 3.5 miles of frontage along the Big Hole River. Guests staying in the eight-room Grand Lodge can build three- to seven-night all-inclusive packages that combine guided fishing, chef-prepared meals, and a choice of additional ranch activities. Licensed local outfitters typically guide two anglers per boat and may select the Big Hole, Beaverhead, Ruby, Jefferson, or Madison according to flows, hatches, regulations, and angler goals. Private ranch access makes independent fishing along the property’s Big Hole River frontage convenient before or after guided days, while the lodge’s small scale, upscale accommodations, and varied non-angling activities make it especially well suited to couples, families, and private groups.
Who's It For?
Direct access to the Big Hole River
The ranch borders 3.5 miles of the middle Big Hole River immediately upstream of Maiden Rock Canyon. Guests can cross the property to reach pools, riffles, and runs before or after guided fishing, with a golf-cart path providing convenient access to portions of the riverfront.
Flexible multi-river fishing
Silver Bow partners with licensed local outfitters who may fish the Big Hole, Beaverhead, Ruby, Jefferson, or Madison. This regional flexibility allows guides to select water according to runoff, river temperature, clarity, hatches, regulations, and each angler’s preferred style of fishing.
Intimate all-inclusive lodge experience
The 15,000-square-foot Grand Lodge contains only eight guest rooms and suites. Packages include accommodations, chef-prepared meals, guided fishing or another scheduled daily activity, fishing equipment when needed, housekeeping, and access to the ranch’s facilities.
Excellent for mixed-interest groups
Guests can substitute activities such as horseback riding, ATV touring, trap shooting, or seasonal hunting for selected fishing days. This flexibility makes Silver Bow particularly attractive to couples, families, corporate groups, and lodge buyouts that include both anglers and non-anglers.

Seasonal Fishing
Calendar
The lodge opens May 1, and early-season fishing may include Blue-Winged Olives, Skwalas, and Mother’s Day Caddis. Conditions can change quickly as snowmelt begins, and anglers should expect cold mornings, variable weather, and the possibility of rising or discolored water.
Runoff may remain a major factor during the early part of June. Salmonflies and Golden Stones usually emerge during the month, followed by Pale Morning Duns and Little Yellow Sallies, but exact hatch timing varies with water temperature and annual snowpack. Guides may select another regional river when the Big Hole is high or off-color.
Summer offers a broad mixture of caddis, Pale Morning Duns, Yellow Sallies, terrestrials, Tricos, and occasional Spruce Moth fishing. Warm weather can raise afternoon water temperatures, resulting in early departures, abbreviated fishing days, or mandatory restrictions on affected rivers.
Autumn brings cooler water, reduced traffic, changing foliage, and opportunities with Tricos, Blue-Winged Olives, streamers, and terrestrials. Rivers may be low and clear, requiring longer leaders and careful presentations. Freezing mornings, wind, rain, and occasional snow become increasingly possible later in the season.
Lodging & Accommodations
Accommodations
The 15,000-square-foot Grand Lodge contains five upstairs king suites and three main-floor lodge rooms with two queen beds. Every room or suite has a private bathroom, and common areas include a large great room with a stone fireplace, several sitting areas, a billiards lounge, a guest pantry, and an outdoor campfire area. Four separate log cabins are also available, but these are normally booked as non-inclusive accommodations with meals and guided activities added separately.
Food
All-inclusive lodge packages include breakfast, lunch, afternoon hors d’oeuvres, and a four-course dinner. Breakfast and dinner are served at the lodge, while guides normally carry a packed or streamside lunch on full fishing days. The kitchen can accommodate many dietary restrictions with advance notice. Non-alcoholic beverages are available, but alcohol, beer, and wine are not included.
Connectivity
Complimentary WiFi is available throughout the Grand Lodge and guest accommodations. Cellular service reaches the ranch, although coverage and performance vary by carrier. The property is readily accessible by road, making Silver Bow considerably more connected than a remote wilderness fishing lodge.
Target Species
Brown Trout
Rainbow Trout
8-Day Itinerary
Each day is carefully planned to maximize your fishing success while experiencing the best of what this destination has to offer. Itineraries are flexible based on conditions and guest preferences.
Silver Bow packages are customizable from three to seven nights. This sample itinerary is based on a seven-night package with six guided activity days. Guests can fly into Bert Mooney Airport in Butte, approximately 35 minutes from the ranch, or Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, approximately 1.5 hours away. Rental cars are available at both airports, and transportation to the lodge is not included. Check-in begins after 4:00 PM, followed by time to settle into your room and enjoy dinner.
After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the lodge and select the day’s river according to flows, water temperature, clarity, hatches, regulations, and angler goals. Fishing may take place on the Big Hole, Beaverhead, Ruby, Jefferson, or Madison, generally with two anglers sharing a guide and drift boat or raft. Lunch is provided during the fishing day, and guests return to the lodge for hors d’oeuvres and dinner. When conditions and regulations permit, anglers may also independently access the Big Hole River across the ranch before or after their guided day. Guests may substitute another available ranch activity for selected fishing days.
After breakfast, check out by 11:00 AM and drive to the appropriate airport for your flight home. Guests departing from Butte should allow approximately 35 minutes for the drive, while those using Bozeman should allow approximately 1.5 hours plus additional time for traffic, rental-car return, and airport check-in.
Frequently Asked Questions
GET IN TOUCHThe Big Hole is the lodge’s home river, with 3.5 miles of frontage passing through the ranch immediately upstream of Maiden Rock Canyon. Silver Bow also partners with local outfitters who guide the Beaverhead, Ruby, Jefferson, and Madison. The specific river selected each day depends on flows, clarity, water temperature, hatches, regulations, travel time, and angler objectives, so no particular river should be considered guaranteed.
The lodge operates from May 1 through November 1, with the primary fishing season extending from May through mid-October. May can offer excellent pre-runoff hatches, June is associated with Salmonflies and Golden Stones but may also bring runoff, July and August provide diverse summer hatches, and September through mid-October offers cooler water and autumn fishing. The best period depends on whether an angler prioritizes major hatches, warmer weather, lower traffic, or streamer fishing.
The Big Hole is a freestone river and can become high, cold, and discolored during snowmelt. Runoff commonly affects portions of May and June, but its timing and intensity vary by annual snowpack and weather. The Beaverhead is a tailwater and may provide an alternative when the Big Hole is unsuitable, although it has its own flow, access, and fishing considerations. River selection remains a daily guide decision.
The Big Hole’s season begins with Blue-Winged Olives and Skwalas, followed by Mother’s Day Caddis. Salmonflies and Golden Stones normally occur during June, with Pale Morning Duns, Little Yellow Sallies, and caddis continuing into summer. Tricos, terrestrials, and occasional Spruce Moths become important later in the season. Hatch dates are approximate and can shift significantly with water temperature, flows, and weather.
Most guided days are conducted from a drift boat or raft, allowing anglers to cover productive reaches of the Big Hole and other regional rivers. Guides may stop to wade suitable runs, riffles, side channels, or banks when conditions allow. Independent fishing along the ranch frontage is generally done on foot, although wading difficulty varies with river level. High spring flows may make wading unsafe or impractical.
A 9-foot 5-weight with a floating line is the most versatile setup for dry flies, dry-dropper rigs, and general nymph fishing. Anglers interested in streamers may add a 6- or 7-weight with a floating line, sink tip, or sinking leader. Leaders from approximately 7.5 to 12 feet with 3X through 5X tippet cover most situations. Silver Bow can provide 5- or 6-weight outfits, leaders, tippet, flies, and seasonal waders, although experienced anglers may prefer their own equipment.
The regional rivers hold wild Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Westslope Cutthroat Trout, and Arctic Grayling, but fish size and catch rate vary considerably among rivers and seasons. Trout in the low- to upper-teens are common across much of the fishery, while fish over 18 inches are noteworthy and trout exceeding 20 inches are possible. Large Brown Trout are present, but anglers should not treat exceptional fish or published fish-density figures as guaranteed personal results.
Yes. Guests receive private access across Silver Bow’s property to approximately 3.5 miles of Big Hole River frontage, with a golf-cart path reaching portions of the river. This describes private ranch access, not private ownership of the river itself. Independent anglers must carry a Montana fishing license, follow all regulations and restrictions, respect lawful stream-access boundaries, and avoid entering neighboring private property.
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks may implement hoot-owl restrictions, full closures, or other emergency rules when water temperatures or flows become stressful for trout. Hoot-owl restrictions commonly prohibit fishing from 2:00 PM until midnight on designated waters. Guides may start earlier, select another river, shorten the fishing day, or suspend fishing when necessary. Anglers should review the current Montana fishing restrictions before and during their trip.
Grand Lodge rooms and suites are sold through all-inclusive packages that combine accommodations, meals, scheduled guided activities, housekeeping, equipment, and ranch amenities. The four log cabins are normally rented at a flat nightly rate on a non-inclusive basis. Cabin guests prepare their own meals unless lodge dining is added and pay separately for guided fishing, activities, and optional golf-cart use. The lodge program is the better match for a fully hosted fishing vacation, while the cabins serve independent travelers and do-it-yourself anglers.
Bert Mooney Airport in Butte is approximately 35 minutes from the ranch and is the closest commercial airport. Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is approximately 1.5 hours away and generally offers more flight options. Helena and Missoula are additional alternatives. Airport transfers are not included, and most guests rent a vehicle. Every angler must purchase the appropriate Montana fishing license and required conservation and aquatic invasive species passes, preferably through the Montana online licensing system before arrival.
