Martin Pescador Lodge is a two-lodge fly fishing experience that showcases the best of Chilean Patagonia's diverse trout waters. Over the course of a week, guests split time between two remote locations: one on the Río Yelcho and the other near the Río Rosselot, each offering access to a different set of rivers, lakes, and streams.
This program is all about variety. Anglers float classic systems like the Futaleufú, Yelcho, Rosselot, and Figueroa, as well as hidden creeks and lesser-known lakes. Jet boats, rafts, and drift boats are used to match the conditions, with new water on the docket every day. January marks the start of the Martin Pescador season and offers some of the year's most exciting fishing. Higher water levels, aggressive trout, and the famous dragonfly hatch create excellent opportunities with dry-dropper rigs, large attractor dries, and streamers. Both rivers and lakes fish well, and trout are often eager to chase larger flies. For anglers who enjoy variety and covering lots of water, January is an outstanding time to visit.
February is considered peak summer in Chilean Patagonia. Stable weather, consistent river conditions, and prolific insect activity create some of the season's best dry fly fishing. Mayflies, caddis, terrestrials, and other insects become increasingly important food sources, while the program's diverse mix of rivers, lakes, and spring creeks allows guides to adapt each day to prevailing conditions. For many anglers, February represents the most consistent and well-rounded fishing of the season.
As autumn approaches, cooler temperatures and lighter fishing pressure create excellent conditions for larger trout. Brown trout become increasingly aggressive as they prepare for winter, making March one of the best times of year for anglers hoping to encounter trophy fish. Streamer fishing grows more productive, though dry fly opportunities remain excellent during warmer afternoons. Combined with beautiful fall scenery and fewer anglers, March is a favorite among experienced Patagonia travelers.

Accommodations
Over the course of your week, you'll stay at two comfortable and well-appointed lodges that serve as a home base while exploring different waters. The transition between locations is seamless, with the staff handling all logistics and your luggage waiting for you upon arrival. Your trip begins at Río Yelcho Lodge, a small collection of private riverside cabins tucked into the temperate Valdivian rainforest. Each casita includes en suite bathrooms, wood-burning stoves, and outdoor decks with views of the glacier-fed Yelcho River. The main lodge houses a cozy dining area, bar, and lounge space, while a short walk through the trees leads to a riverside sauna and hot tub, the perfect way to unwind after a full day on the water. Midweek, you'll transfer to Río Rosselot Lodge, a larger structure situated along the banks of the Río Rosselot. The lodge features five spacious double rooms, each with private bathrooms and wraparound decks overlooking the river, Melimoyu Volcano, and surrounding farmland. Shared meals are served at a long communal table, and evenings are best spent enjoying a drink by the fire pit or soaking in the outdoor hot tub. Both lodges are comfortable without being overbuilt, offering a quiet, welcoming atmosphere that fits the remote setting.

Meals at Martin Pescador are thoughtfully prepared and rooted in local ingredients, offering a blend of traditional Chilean fare and international favorites. Breakfasts are hearty and made to order, often featuring fresh bread, eggs, fruit, and strong coffee to start the day. Lunch is typically a cooler-style meal served on the water, giving anglers a chance to recharge and hydrate with an incredible view. Evenings begin with appetizers and cocktails, including a proper Pisco Sour, followed by a seated dinner in the main lodge. Dinners are multi-course and highlight regional dishes using fresh, seasonal ingredients. One night each week, guests are treated to a traditional Chilean asado, an open-fire barbecue featuring lamb or seafood, paired with local wine and good company. House beer, wine, and spirits are included throughout the week.

11-Day Itinerary
Each day is carefully planned to maximize your fishing success while experiencing the best of what this destination has to offer. Itineraries are flexible based on conditions and guest preferences.
A standard week at Martin Pescador Lodge runs from Saturday to Saturday. Travel typically begins with a Thursday flight to Santiago, Chile (SCL), followed by a Friday morning domestic flight to Puerto Montt (PMC). From there, most travelers overnight in Puerto Varas, a scenic lakeside town about 45 minutes from the airport. This is a great way to break up the journey and enjoy a relaxed start to the trip. On Saturday morning, an Eleven Angling representative will coordinate taxi transfers to a nearby airstrip, where you'll board a domestic flight to Chaitén. Upon arrival, you'll be met by the lodge team for a short 25-minute drive to the Río Yelcho Lodge. Once settled in, guests enjoy a half-day afternoon fishing session - a great way to ease into the week and get a few casts in before the full program begins.
Each fishing day at Martin Pescador begins with coffee in the main lodge, followed by a hearty breakfast featuring fresh fruit, house-baked bread, and made-to-order eggs. You'll typically depart with your guide by mid-morning, using either a boat or vehicle, depending on the day's destination. Fishing includes a cooler lunch on the water and continues through the afternoon, usually wrapping up around 5 p.m. Back at the lodge, there's time to relax before sitting down for appetizers and a regional dinner around 8:00 p.m. Evenings are casual and social, offering a chance to unwind, share stories, and rest up for the next day on the water.
After your final day on the water, you'll enjoy breakfast on Saturday morning before beginning the transfer back to the Chaitén airfield. From there, you'll board your domestic flight to Puerto Montt, followed by a connecting flight to Santiago (SCL). From Santiago, you'll continue on to your international destination. Some travelers may choose to spend a night or two in Puerto Varas to break up the return trip and enjoy a bit more of southern Chile before heading home.

Martin Pescador consistently produces healthy wild Rainbow and Brown Trout, with most fish measuring between 16 and 20 inches. Fish over 24 inches are landed every season, and anglers occasionally encounter trout approaching or exceeding 30 inches. While trophy fish are always possible, one of the lodge's greatest strengths is the combination of excellent numbers, quality average size, and incredible variety of fisheries.
Dry fly fishing is one of Martin Pescador's biggest draws, particularly during February when terrestrial insects, beetles, dragonflies, and other summer hatches create exceptional surface action. However, the fishery is incredibly versatile. Depending on water conditions and your goals, guides may recommend dry-dropper rigs, nymphs, or streamers to target larger trout. The diversity of rivers and lakes means guides can adjust each day's strategy to provide the best possible fishing.
No. Martin Pescador provides premium fly rods, reels, lines, flies, leaders, tippet, and other terminal tackle as part of the package. Waders and boots are also available whenever they're needed. Many guests simply travel with clothing and personal items, making this one of the easiest Patagonia destinations to pack for. Of course, you're welcome to bring your own favorite rods if you prefer fishing with familiar equipment.

The experienced English-speaking guide team excels at teaching casting, presentation, and fish-fighting techniques while also helping experienced anglers refine their approach. The program accommodates a maximum of 10 anglers per week, creating a relaxed atmosphere both on and off the water. With two strategically located lodges, dozens of boats, and access to an extensive network of rivers and lakes, guests are able to spread out across the region rather than concentrating on a handful of fisheries. The result is a more personalized experience with very little competition for productive water.
The season runs from January through March, and each month offers something a little different. January brings aggressive trout and excellent fishing following spring runoff, along with the famous dragonfly hatch. February typically offers the most consistent weather and some of Patagonia's finest dry fly fishing. March sees cooler temperatures, beautiful fall colors, lighter fishing pressure, and outstanding streamer opportunities for larger Brown Trout. There is no wrong time to visit—it simply depends on the type of fishing you enjoy most.
