When you need a bit more length in your hook shank–whether it be for imitating longer-bodied insects or accommodating large beads–Daiichi has the perfect hook in their 1710 2X-Long Nymph Hooks. With a 1x-heavy wire and 2x-long shank, this hook is super strong and provides all of the tying room that you need when whipping up larger patterns. A versatile hook that’s ready for all of your freshwater adventures, the 1710 is made in sizes 2 through 18 and has you covered whether you’re tying massive stoneflies to feed to trophy trout or Marabou Muddlers to help you find that 20” smallmouth bass.
Uses
The 1710 2X-Long Nymph Hooks is a pretty versatile platform. Daiichi designed it for those times whenever you need just a little extra length for your patterns. With a wide range of available sizes, all of which are 2x-long, this hook is a good choice whether you’re tying nymphs (with or without a bead), wet flies, emergers, and even streamers.
Comparisons
A hook that’s very similar to the 1710 2X-Long Nymph Hooks is Tiemco’s TMC 5262 Heavy Nymph and Streamer Hook. The TMC 5262 has an almost identical profile to Daiichi’s 1710 and features a 2x-long hook shank that lets you tie just about the same flies with each of these hooks. One difference to note, however, is that Tiemco’s 1710 Hook has a 1x heavy wire and the TMC 5262 has a 2x heavy wire, so if you want a little extra weight, then the Tiemco option would be more suitable. Regardless of which hook you go with, you can rest easy knowing that these are both very reliable choices.
