Trip Summary

Providence Atoll is the largest fishable coral atoll in the Indian Ocean: roughly 345 square kilometers of pristine sand flats, turtle grass banks, surf zones, and channels lying far south of Mahe in the remote outer Seychelles. Blue Safari fishes it by expedition liveaboard, with anglers living aboard the Mayas Dugong, a seven-cabin exploration vessel with air-conditioned dining and lounge spaces, and running to the flats each morning by guided skiff. The species list is as complete as saltwater fly fishing gets: giant trevally, bonefish, permit, moustache and yellowmargin triggerfish, milkfish, and the prized bumphead parrotfish, which Providence is one of the very few places on earth to sight-cast on foot, plus sailfish, yellowfin tuna, and more offshore. Seven-night, six-fishing-day expeditions in a fishery this vast mean you may not see another angler outside your group all week.

Lodging & Accommodations

Lodge accommodations

Accommodations

You live aboard the Mayas Dugong, a dedicated exploration vessel with seven guest cabins (four convertible to singles and three doubles), an air-conditioned dining room and lounge, and a spacious upper deck with lounging areas for the evenings between fishing days. Because the mothership anchors on the fishery, your commute to some of the wildest flats on earth is a short skiff ride.

Food

Meals are prepared aboard by the vessel's chef, with fresh fish featuring regularly and lunches taken out on the water during the fishing day. Confirm current beverage inclusions for your departure when booking.

Connectivity

Providence is genuinely remote and you should plan to be off-grid for the week. The vessel carries satellite communications for operational and emergency use; treat guest connectivity as unavailable unless confirmed directly with the operator.

Target Species

9-Day Itinerary

Each day is carefully planned to maximize your fishing success while experiencing the best of what this destination has to offer. Itineraries are flexible based on conditions and guest preferences.

GET IN TOUCH

Fly into Mahe International Airport and overnight, then connect by charter flight to the outer islands to meet the Mayas Dugong.

Settle into your cabin, meet the guide team, rig up, and get a full fishery briefing as the vessel positions over Providence.

Run out by guided skiff each morning to wade the atoll's vast sand flats, surf edges, and channels for GTs, bonefish, permit, triggerfish, milkfish, and bumphead parrotfish, with offshore options for sailfish and tuna.

Transfer and charter flight back to Mahe for your international departure home.

Frequently Asked Questions

GET IN TOUCH

Seven-night, six-fishing-day expeditions aboard the Mayas Dugong with three tiers: shared cabin and shared skiff, single cabin and shared skiff, or shared cabin with a private skiff.

The outer-atoll season runs roughly October to mid-December and late January through April; the fishery closes over the Indian Ocean winter trade-wind months.

Bumphead parrotfish. Providence is among the very few places on earth to sight-cast to them, alongside giant trevally, bonefish, permit, triggerfish, and milkfish.

Both. You run to the flats by skiff from the mothership and spend most of the day wading, with offshore fishing available for sailfish and yellowfin tuna.

This is a demanding, remote saltwater destination best suited to reasonably fit anglers comfortable wading and making long casts in wind. It is not a first flats trip.

A 9-weight for bonefish, a 10-weight for permit and triggerfish, and an 11 to 12-weight with a strong reel and plenty of backing for GTs. A full gear and fly list is provided when you book.
