The Quill Gordon Mayfly can be as large as a size 12, and depending on where you're fishing, it can start to hatch as early as the beginning of April. Theodore Gordon, often referred to as the Father of American Dry Fly Fishing, designed this imitation of the Quill Gordon in the late 19th century, and with its construction of mallard wings, a stripped peacock herl body, and dun tail and hackling, it remains a great representation of these mayflies today.
The Quill Gordon Dry Fly is a direct imitation of the natural, so you'll want to fish it whenever you see insects emerging and fish rising, and presenting this fly without any drag will be integral to success.
