Description

A natural material that's been used for years, Hareline's Rams Wool is a voluminous fiber that lets you pack tight water-pushing heads on your streamer or tie some of Bob Popovics's famous Pop Lips Fleyes. A great addition to many streamer patterns, Rams Wool is super durable and can be packed tightly to create heads or even spin full bodies. From imitating sculpins to tying large saltwater flies, Rams Wool is a material that you can use with confidence, whether you're chasing big brown trout or casting Siliclones into the wash during the mullet run.

Uses

Rams' Wool is mostly used to spin heads and bodies, similarly to how you would use deer hair.

Rams Wool creates great density and can be trimmed to fine-tune the look of your fly's head or body, however you like. One other great use of Rams Wool is to spin streamer bodies and coat with Silicone, just like Bob Popovics did when he created his Pop Lips Fleye and his Siliclone.

Tip: When tying with Rams Wool, it's best to comb the fibers on the hide before working with it to cleanly align them and remove any tangles.

Comparisons

Rams' Wool is a pretty unique natural material without great alternatives. Deer Belly Hair can be spun the same as Rams Wool, but it doesn't offer the same effect. Deer Belly also tends to be much more buoyant and won't absorb water nearly as well as Rams Wool does. With this material being in such a league of its own, it's best to stick with the original anytime you're going for that spun wool head or body.

Example Flies

Rams Wool can be worked into a variety of patterns, but a few of the most popular are:

Pop Lips

Siliclone

Flex Fleye

Butt Monkey

Nappy Sculpin

Rams wool

"I really like using this product, took me some time and practice to get it to tie in how I wanted it too but I found some fun in the challenge. Really like the look of wool heads on streamers and also make great-looking sculpin patterns."
