Lamson Radius Fly Rod

The Lamson Radius Fly Rod is the rod for anglers who know Lamson for reels and have never had one of their blanks in hand. Lamson designed the Radius as a departure from the rest of their rod line, built to enhance your feel and connection to the cast rather than to solve one narrow problem, and the result is a medium-fast four piece that flexes deep and recovers quickly. That pairing is what makes it easy to fish for a full day: enough flex to feel the rod load on a short cast to a rising fish, enough recovery to turn over a Clouser along a bass bank or drop a popper next to a laydown.

The series runs 3wt through 8wt in three lengths, so the same medium-fast feel shows up in a short technical dry fly stick, a standard all-day 9ft, and a long rod built for reach and mending. Lamson categorizes the Radius as a freshwater rod and does not list it among their saltwater models, so plan on trout, bass, panfish and other freshwater work rather than the flats.

Multi-Modulus Blank - Lamson builds the Radius on a multi-modulus blank and rates every model in the series medium to medium-fast. Blending modulus levels through the taper is what lets the rod bend well down into the mid-section without going mushy at the tip, which is the deeper flex plus quick recovery combination Lamson was after. In practice that means you feel the rod load on 25 feet of line instead of only at distance, and it is the reason the Radius reads as forgiving rather than demanding.

Soft Tip - Lamson calls out the soft tips on these rods specifically as tippet protection, which is why the shorter 3wt through 5wt models are pitched at picky trout on light tippet. The 10ft models trade some of that delicacy for reach, giving you mending control and the leverage for longer, more powerful casts.

Fighting Butt - The butt configuration changes with the model. The 8ft 6in and 9ft rods in 3wt through 6wt have no fighting butt, the 10ft 4wt through 6wt rods get a micro fighting butt, and the 9ft 7wt and 8wt rods get a full fighting butt.

Cosmetics - Dark pearl blank finish with dark smoke and chartreuse accents. Published rod weights run from 2.60 oz for the 4wt 8ft 6in up to 3.90 oz for the 8wt 9ft.

Guides

Stripping Guides - Silicon carbide (SiC) stripping guide. SiC is one of the hardest ring materials used in rod building, so it shrugs off the grit that rides in on a fly line and resists the grooving that eventually shreds coatings on softer inserts.

Snake Guides - Smoke finish hard chrome guides. Hard chrome plating is the long-standing standard for corrosion and wear resistance on snake guides, and the smoke finish keeps them visually consistent with the dark pearl blank and dark smoke hardware.

Reel Seat

Lockdown Reel Seat - Lamson's Lockdown seat mounts the reel foot on machined aluminum rails rather than on a round barrel. Lamson's own explanation is the practical one: a foot clamped on flat rails cannot rock loose over a day of casting the way a reel on a rounded seat can. The hardware is dark smoke anodized aluminum, which is the corrosion-resistant choice for a freshwater rod that spends time wet, and it carries an Onyx wood insert.

Grip - Flor grade cork in a modified Ritz profile. Flor is the top cork grade, meaning fewer pits and filler than the standard grades used further down most rod lines, and it is a large part of why Lamson describes the Radius as decked out in posh components.

Rod Tube

Every Radius ships in a Cordura rod tube with a separate rod sock. Lamson also describes the case as including dividers to keep the four sections from knocking together in transit, so the rod travels protected without you having to buy a sock or a hard case separately.

Warranty

Lamson covers the Radius under their lifetime warranty against defects in material or workmanship for the original owner, including parts and labor. It does not cover damage from misuse, improper maintenance or modification, and Lamson limits the remedy to repair or replacement at their discretion, with the note that repair parts or colors may not match the original. Rod repairs carry a flat service fee, listed by Lamson at $50 as of August 2026, which covers parts and return shipping. Lamson asks that all four sections go back in a rod tube with their return form, and pledges to have the rod headed back to you within a week of receiving it.
