Return Policy Terms
Effective Date: July 14, 2026
These Return Policy Terms (these “Return Terms”) govern all returns and refund requests for merchandise purchased from Trident Fly Fishing (“Trident,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Return Terms are incorporated into, and form a part of, our Terms and Conditions. For a plain-language overview of how returns work, please see our Returns page. In the event of any conflict between that overview and these Return Terms, these Return Terms control.
1. Acceptance of These Terms
By initiating a return through our online return portal, requesting or using a return merchandise authorization (“RMA”), or shipping any merchandise to Trident for return, you (“you” or “Customer”) acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Return Terms and by our Terms and Conditions, which are incorporated herein by reference. In the event of any conflict between these Return Terms and the Terms and Conditions with respect to returns, exchanges, or refunds, these Return Terms control. If you do not agree to these Return Terms, do not initiate a return.
2. Standard Return Window and Eligibility
2.1. Eligible merchandise may be returned for a refund within thirty (30) calendar days of delivery, subject to these Return Terms. A return is timely only if it is both (a) initiated through our return portal within thirty (30) calendar days of delivery, and (b) received by Trident within fourteen (14) calendar days after the RMA is issued.
2.2. To be eligible for a refund, merchandise must be received by Trident in “Sellable Condition,” meaning the merchandise is unused, unworn, clean, and undamaged; includes all original packaging, tags, components, manuals, and accessories; has a blank (unfilled) warranty or registration card; and is otherwise in the same condition in which it was delivered to you.
2.3. Trident reserves the right to determine, upon inspection, whether returned merchandise is in Sellable Condition and otherwise eligible for a refund under these Return Terms. Merchandise determined not to be in Sellable Condition will not be refunded and will be shipped back to the Customer. On request, Trident will provide reasonable documentation (such as photographs) of the condition of merchandise it determines to be ineligible.
2.4. Proof of purchase is required for all returns. Please include your Loop return sheet or a copy of your invoice with the returned merchandise. Trident may refuse any return for which proof of purchase is not provided.
3. Return Authorization Required
3.1. All returns must be initiated through Trident’s online return portal at returns.tridentflyfishing.com and must be accompanied by a valid RMA issued by Trident. This is the sole authorized method of returning merchandise.
3.2. Merchandise shipped to Trident without a valid RMA (an “Unauthorized Return”) is subject to a $10 processing fee and may be refused, delayed, not processed, or not refunded. Trident assumes no responsibility or liability for Unauthorized Returns, including any loss thereof.
3.3. In the event of repeated Unauthorized Returns or other abuse of the return process, Trident reserves the right to increase applicable fees, refuse future returns, or suspend or terminate return privileges, in each case in its sole discretion.
4. Exchanges
Trident does not process direct exchanges. If you would like a different item, size, or model, return the original merchandise for a refund in accordance with these Return Terms and place a new order for the item you want. This allows us to get the replacement to you without waiting for the returned item to arrive and be inspected. Final-sale merchandise (Section 5) is not eligible for return and therefore cannot be exchanged.
5. Non-Returnable (Final Sale) Merchandise
Except as required by applicable law or as provided in Section 8 (Damaged, Defective, or Incorrect Merchandise), the following items are final sale and may not be returned or refunded:
- Items that are engraved, personalized, or designated as “special order,” including without limitation bamboo rods and one-piece or two-piece rods;
- Items listed or sold as “Custom,” “Special Order,” “Final Sale,” or any similar designation;
- Gift cards;
- Items that have been rigged or mounted onto a fly reel, including without limitation fly lines and backing;
- Fly lines that have been used, tried, or modified in any way;
- Custom rigging fees;
- Shipping fees;
- Items purchased at a discount greater than twenty-five percent (25%) off;
- Items designated as final sale in our catalog or on the applicable product page;
- Purchases made on eBay, including through Trident’s eBay storefront (Trident does not accept returns of eBay purchases, whether through the return portal or otherwise);
- Flies that are not individually packaged; and
- Whiting feathers.
6. Fees and Deductions
6.1. Reels that have been spooled with backing, and fly lines mounted on such reels, are subject to a $25 restocking fee per reel, which will be deducted from any refund.
6.2. Unauthorized Returns are subject to the $10 processing fee described in Section 3.2.
6.3. Original shipping charges and custom rigging fees are non-refundable.
6.4. Trident reserves the right to deduct from any refund the amounts described in these Return Terms, including the retail value of unreturned promotional items as described in Section 9.
7. Return Shipping; Risk of Loss
7.1. Except as expressly provided in Section 8, the Customer is solely responsible for all return shipping costs. Where Trident makes a prepaid return shipping label available through our return portal, the cost of that label will be deducted from your refund unless we state otherwise.
7.2. A prepaid return shipping label provided through our return portal is offered for your convenience only. Providing a label does not transfer the risk of loss to Trident. The Customer bears all risk of loss or damage to returned merchandise until it is actually received by Trident at its designated return facility, whether or not a Trident-provided label is used. If you prefer, you may return merchandise using a carrier and service level of your choice, including a trackable and insured method, at your own expense. Trident strongly recommends using a trackable and insured shipping method and is not responsible for return shipments that are lost, stolen, damaged, or misdelivered in transit.
7.3. The Customer is responsible for adequately packaging returned merchandise. Damage resulting from inadequate packaging may render merchandise ineligible for a refund under Section 2.
8. Damaged, Defective, or Incorrect Merchandise
8.1. If you receive merchandise that is damaged or defective on arrival, or if Trident shipped you the wrong item, notify us promptly through the return portal or our Help Center. Upon verification, Trident will provide a pre-paid return shipping label and, at its option, a replacement or refund. This Section applies regardless of whether an item is otherwise designated final sale.
8.2. Due to the handmade nature of many products we sell, minor variations in thread wraps, epoxy, anodizing, finish, and similar cosmetic characteristics that do not impact the function or fishability of the product are not defects or damage for purposes of these Return Terms. Such items remain returnable under Section 2 but do not qualify for pre-paid return shipping.
9. Promotional and Gift-with-Purchase Items
If returned merchandise was purchased in connection with a free or promotional item (for example, a free fly line or free backing), the promotional item must be returned along with the merchandise. If the promotional item is not returned, Trident will deduct the full retail value of the promotional item from the refund.
10. Refund Processing
10.1. Approved refunds will be issued to the original form of payment following Trident’s receipt and inspection of the returned merchandise. If the original form of payment is unavailable, Trident may issue the refund as store credit.
10.2. Please allow up to ten (10) business days after our receipt of your return for inspection and processing. Your financial institution may require additional time to post the refund to your account.
11. Customers in the European Union and United Kingdom
If you are a consumer located in the European Union or United Kingdom, you may have a statutory right to withdraw from your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods, without giving a reason, in accordance with applicable law. This right is in addition to, and does not limit, the return rights described in these Return Terms. Where the law permits, certain goods may be excluded from the statutory right of withdrawal, including goods that have been used beyond what is necessary to establish their nature and characteristics, custom or personalized goods, and goods that are unsuitable for return for hygiene reasons once unsealed. To exercise a right of withdrawal, contact us through our Help Center, and we will provide instructions and any required withdrawal form. For customers exercising a statutory right of withdrawal, refunds and return-shipping responsibility will be handled as required by applicable law.
12. Used Tackle Returns
12.1. This Section governs all products that are used, pre-owned, or marketed as such, including any item listed in our used tackle collections or with the word “used” in its name or description. By placing an order for a used item, you agree to the terms of this Section. In the event of any conflict between this Section and the standard return terms in Sections 2 and 8, this Section controls with respect to used items.
12.2. Used items are sold AS-IS, with NO WARRANTY. You are taking a risk by buying used. Some manufacturers may be willing to repair a used item at their discretion, but neither the manufacturer nor Trident guarantees any used item in any way. We inspect used tackle before sale, but some defects cannot reasonably be detected.
