The Chubby Chernobyl is a classic western terrestrial dry fly. This pattern combines high-floating foam, rubber legs, and a highly visible wing to provide anglers with a hopper-like imitation that’s highly visible on the water. While it’s a great hopper imitation, the Chubby also works well during the Stonefly hatch, Salmonfly hatch, and as a general attractor pattern on small streams. If you spend any time trout fishing in the western US during the summer, a solid selection of Chubbys will help you catch more fish.

Features

Foam, High-Floating, Dry Fly - The Chubby Chernobyl features a large body built with foam, rubber legs, and a large wing. These characteristics help the fly float high in the water and remain highly visible to fish that are looking up. It’s tied on a long shank hook and is available in a variety of sizes and colors.

Uses

Dry Fly River Fishing - This is a pattern that’s designed to be fished as a dry fly on rivers, streams, and lakes. It’s a great pattern to also add a dropper to because of its foam body. Use this fly during a Salmonfly hatch, in the late summer when hoppers are present, or as a Stonefly imitation. This fly works best with a slightly heavier tippet and fools large fish.

Hatch

Stoneflies, Hoppers - This is a large dry fly with a long body and, as such, imitates large western flies that land on the surface of the water. While this can be used as an attractor pattern, it was designed specifically to imitate Stoneflies and Hoppers.

Species

Trout - As you’ve probably gathered, this is a trout fly designed for fishing in rivers, streams, lakes, and freshwater environments. This isn’t a saltwater fly and should be used only when targeting trout that are feeding on the surface or fish that are likely to rise for a large meal.
