FEATURES

World-Class Permit Fishery

Located in the heart of Belize’s famed Permit Alley, Blue Horizon offers quick access to some of the most productive permit water in the Caribbean, with expansive flats and countless cayes that consistently hold fish.

Technical, Angler-Focused Program

This is a true permit program built for anglers who want to improve and challenge themselves. The guides specialize in reading water, positioning the skiff, and giving you real shots at fish that demand precise presentations.

Remote, Low-Pressure Water

Fishing within the South Water Caye Marine Reserve means less pressure, fewer boats, and vast areas of productive water to explore. It’s common to fish all day without seeing another skiff.

Intimate, Fishing-First Lodge

With a capacity of just ten anglers, Blue Horizon delivers a focused, no-frills experience centered on time on the water. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service is dialed, and everything revolves around maximizing your fishing.

Seasonal Fishing
Calendar

December - February
70-85 °F
Permit Tarpon Bonefish

Cooler, drier conditions with occasional cold fronts. Permit are available but can be more weather dependent during extended cool periods, while Bonefish and resident Tarpon provide steady opportunities across the flats and lagoons.

March - May
75-85 °F
Permit Tarpon Bonefish

One of the best overall windows of the year. Stable weather and warming water improve consistency, with strong Permit fishing and the early arrival of migratory Tarpon building through late spring.

June - August
80-90 °F
Permit Tarpon Bonefish

Prime Permit season. Warm water and longer days create excellent conditions on the flats, while large migratory Tarpon are present in the highest numbers. Bonefish remain a consistent option throughout.

September - November
75-85 °F
Permit Tarpon Bonefish

A productive fall season with fewer anglers. Migratory Tarpon taper off into early fall, while Permit fishing can still be very good when weather patterns cooperate. Bonefish and resident Tarpon remain reliable.

Food

The culinary program at Blue Horizon features traditional Belizean dishes with a modern flare. Fresh seafood of various types is commonly served, along with produce and meats from small, local farms. A few of our favorite dishes are the seafood serre, conch fritters, ceviche, grilled lobster, and delectable homemade desserts. Breakfast consists of coffee or tea, fruit juice, fresh tropical fruits, baked goods, and a savory option such as quiche or stuffed fry jacks. Nourishing lunches are packed by your guides so you don't have to even think about lunch until it's time to eat. The self-serve bar is open each evening and is stocked with local rum and mixers. Every night will also feature a unique happy hour cocktail. Try their famous "Pesky Permit"!

Frequently Asked Questions

GET IN TOUCH

While novice flats anglers are welcome at Blue Horizon Lodge, we recommend this trip for intermediate to advanced-level flats anglers. Being a Permit-focused operation first and foremost, anglers should be comfortable casting heavy crab patterns accurately at 60 feet in the wind.

Most importantly, you should practice casting in windy conditions. As with any saltwater trip, wind can be a major factor in Belize. Also, purchasing the right gear, tackle, and clothing is important - use our recommended packing lists. You should think about your goals for the trip, so you can relay that to your guides. And lastly, figure out your travel logistics well in advance.

Blue Horizon Lodge is best suited for solo, hardcore permit anglers or fishing-oriented groups. Due to the remoteness of the island, there isn't much else to do here other than fish.

The lodge has a capacity of 10 anglers, making this a very intimate lodging and angling experience. On the flats, you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere - because you are!

100% purified drinking water is supplied in each guest room and the main lodge, in five-gallon jugs. Drinking water is supplied on the boats in large reusable coolers. Upon check-in, you will be given a reusable water bottle for drinking water. Please help reduce the use of single-use plastic by using that water bottle during your stay.

The Belizean Dollar (BZD) is pegged to the US Dollar (USD) at a 2:1 ratio. US Dollars are accepted everywhere, but change will be given in Belizean dollars. Please bring enough cash to cover gratuities, departure tax, & incidentals.

Belize was a British colony, and English remains their official language. Blue Horizon guides speak English and Creole, and some speak Spanish.

Belize is generally considered a safe country for international tourists. As with any international travel, use common sense and keep your wits about you. Once at the lodge, crime is of little concern.

Electrical outlets are the same as in the U.S. - 110 Volt AC power.

The climate of Belize is subtropical with temperatures averaging around 80 degrees F throughout the year. Lows during winter rarely drop below 70 and highs during the warmest months are only occasionally above 100. July and August tend to be the warmest months and cold fronts in the winter generally bring the coolest temperatures.

Yes, complimentary high-speed WiFi is available throughout the lodge and in each room.

The lodge has a self-serve bar with complimentary local beer, rum, and mixers. If you want to enjoy specific libations, you will need to purchase those at the duty-free in Belize City before arrival.

Yes, tipping is customary although it is at your discretion. Tipping 10-15 % of your trip total per person is recommended. Please plan on tipping in cash.

Medical emergencies and evacuations can happen in remote destinations, which is why we strongly recommend enrolling with Global Rescue before your trip. Global Rescue provides industry-leading medical and security evacuation services, and they also offer comprehensive travel insurance plans serviced through IMG. This all-in-one solution allows anglers to secure both emergency evacuation coverage and travel insurance through a single provider, helping ensure you’re protected if something unexpected occurs before or during your trip.
