Located at the confluence of the Chimehuin and Collon Cura rivers in northern Patagonia, Tres Rios Lodge offers outstanding river access to some of the finest trout fishing in Argentina. The lodge’s remote location is punctuated by sweeping vistas of the surrounding bluffs and pampas. From the lodge, anglers will have access to ten miles of private water on Rio Chimehuin and twenty miles of the Rio Collon Cura. Both rivers offer excellent float and walk/wade fishing opportunities for plump Brown and Rainbow Trout. The lodge features modern, comfortable accommodations and world-class dining in a tranquil setting.
Who It’s For
When To Go
The fishing season at Tres Rios Lodge runs from November through April. The early season from November through December is the runoff period and can experience higher flows more conducive to float fishing. January through March are the peak summer months and offer medium flows, great wading conditions, and excellent hatches. April brings the autumn season and offers anglers lower flows, cooler temperatures, and fantastic streamer fishing.
Brown Trout
The Rio Chimehuin and Rio Collon Cura both feature dense populations of wild brown trout which can range in size from 10 inches to well over 20 inches. Here, anglers can target browns using various techniques including dry flies, nymphing, and streamers.
Rainbow Trout
Despite being known for Brown Trout, the Chimehuin and the Collon Cura also offer great opportunities for catching wild Rainbow Trout. Known for congregating in pods, rainbows are often found in quick riffles feeding on nymphs and emergers. Where you find one Rainbow, there are likely others nearby. Your expert guides will know the hot spots for targeting these beautiful trout, which can range in size from 10 inches up to 20 inches in some areas.
Equipment
Successful fishing at Tres Rios Lodge typically requires multiple rods with matching reels. We recommend bringing 3 rods: a 9’ 5wt for dry flies, a 9’ 6wt for nymphing, and a 9’ 7wt for streamers. Your guides will help you rig appropriately for the day’s fishing. We recommend adhering to the packing and equipment lists provided by Trident.
