Good movement
"Nice hair, especially for larger flies. Extra durable."
From the mind of master fly tier David Nelson, Squimipsh Fibers are a synthetic material that sit in a league of their own. Squimpish Hair is packaged on a patch, similar to craft fur, but with fibers reaching a foot in length–though, unlike other synthetics or even bucktail, Squimpish can be trimmed to whatever length you need without ruining the taper. A super versatile material that has lifelike movement in the water, Squimpish Hair can be used whether you’re imitating massive baitfish like an adult bunker or redhorse sucker, just as well it can be used to tie smaller baitfish like dace and sand eels. Finely tuning his material just like the flies he ties, David Nelson crafts his Squimpish Hair in a wide range of colors so that you can add life to your flies exactly how you like.
Uses
It’s not often that you get a material that allows you to tie massive flies and tiny patterns, but somehow, Squimpish Hair does it perfectly. While Squimpish Hair has become a very popular choice when tying large-profiled flies like Hollows, it can also be used to tie smaller forage like shrimp and juvenile baitfish, and it’s commonly used when tying tails, bodies, and wings on streamer patterns. Another solid use for Squimpish Hair is to create massive composite loops to craft large flies easily.
Comparisons
Although Squimpish Hair is a material that doesn’t have many similar options, the two closest materials would be Craft Fur and Bucktail. Craft Fur offers a similar texture and movement in the water, but it’s much shorter, so it doesn’t have the size versatility of Squimpish Hair. Bucktail, on the other hand, offers a similar ability to tie large profiled streamers, especially Hollow Fleyes, but it’s more rigid and is also impossible to find in the same length as Squimpish Hair.
