Description
An important hatch whether you're on the east or west coast, the March Brown is a mayfly that's sure to bring fish to the surface. Hatching earlier on the west (early March into April) than the east (late April into May), the March Brown Dry Fly is a great imitation for these early mayflies. Tied to float high on the water and match the colors of the naturals, this fly has a light brown dubbed body, mallard flank wings, and brown and grizzly hackling.
The March Brown Dry Fly is designed to mimic the March Brown mayflies and should be fished anytime you see them hatching, but it's a fly that can also be used if you see Gray Fox mayflies emerging. This is a dry fly that you'll want to present without any drag and casting over rising trout will increase your odds, and the most common sizes are 12-14. One of those flies that should always be in your springtime dry fly box, the March Brown hatch gets fish feeding year after year.
