Description

Ultra clear spring creeks with trout gorging on beetles falling off hemlock boughs, nymphing pockets in a high-altitude freestone stream packed with brookies, post-work-popping-bug-panfish sessions on your way home, Hardy’s Ultralite NSX SR Rod series is ready for all of your lightweight adventures. A new addition to Hardy’s ever-loved Ultralite range of rods, the NSX SR Fly Rod is as light as you’d expect yet powerful enough to send tight loops under dense cover and handle the monsters of smaller waters. The NSX SR features high-quality components like Hardy’s Sintrix NSX construction, an AAAA Grade Cork, and Recoil Snake Guides, making it a durable tool that’s hard not to love. A versatile series of small-stream rods, the NSX SR is made in line weights 2 through 5 in lengths that begin at 6’6” and bump all the way up to a 9’, which gives an option for anything from tiny meadow brooks to larger streams that require tight line nymphing and mend over pockets and riffles. Whether you’re hitting up Big Spring Creek in Pennsylvania or exploring a secret tributary in the White Mountains, the NXS SR has you prepped for it all.

Blank

Sintrix -The Ultralite NSX SR series of rods is built with a graphite blank that features Hardy’s Sintrix technology and has a medium-fast action. Hardy’s Sintrix NSX combines a high modulus carbon fibre with a rapid taper to give you an ultra-fast rod that can throw a tight loop into the wind, yet still maintain solid feel when casting up close. And with the Sintrix tech, you also get outstanding durability as a result of microscopic silica spheres that encompass each carbon fibre filament.

The Ultralite NXS SR Rods have a sharp Green Pearl blank. With this green color, your mind will always be on those densely forested streams, and not only that, but it’s a color that blends in perfectly with those canopied stretches of water.

Guides

Titanium Stripping Guides - Hardy adds Titanium Stripping Guides to this family of rods. A solid choice for these small stream sticks, these guides add lightweight durability with just the right amount of slickness.

Recoil Snake Guides - The perfect addition to the Ultralite NSX SR Rods, Hardy utilizes Recoil Snake Guides. These guides offer the pinnacle of durability without being overly heavy. Designed to spring back into action immediately, these guides can stand up to drops on trails, battles with trees, and any other accidents that may on those close-quartered streams.

Reel Seat

Asymmetrical Reel Seat - Hardy takes an unconventional approach with the reel seat on this series of rods, giving it an asymmetrical construction. Unlike other reel seats, this one is just slightly asymmetrical, which prevents your reel from ever coming loose. This is a really solid feature for small stream fishing, which is usually quite fast-paced and quick to throw you a curveball.

Rod Tube

Hardy packages their Ultralite NSX SR Rod in a hard tube. This tube is perfect for the traveling angler or for those long treks into your campsite, especially those right next to a blue line packed with brookies.

Warranty

As of September 2022, Hardy’s Ultralite X Fly Rods are covered by their Worldwide Extended Warranty. This warranty is pretty straightforward, and for $75, it covers the repair or replacement of your rod.

Hardy Ultralite SR Fly Rod Review

The allure of leaving overcrowded and overfished rivers behind for more tranquil settings has piqued the interest of a new generation of anglers. The fly fishing industry has taken note, and The SR enters a growing field of fly rods designed for small stream applications. Going into this review, we questioned whether the rod offered anything different from others in its category. After all, $825 is a good amount for a specialized tool, and it is hard to reinvent the creek rod wheel. If you have similar questions and find...

Hardy ultralite nsx sr fly rod

"Excellent description of the rod I knew what I was getting before I ordered it I liked the graft to show the action of the rod and the line recommending the pictures were good to and the free line was an unexpected bonus I’m very happy with the new rod"

Great Small Stream Rod

"I paired an Ultralight 7’ 3wt with a Hardy Ultraclick. The combo is impressively light. The reel just holds line(and looks pretty). The rod is special. I’m using Rio Creek line, the rod is extremely accurate whether working in very close proximity or stretching it out. It’s got its distance limits, but I’m fishing small creeks and blue lines with it. If I need a 40ft cast it’s there and throws nice tight loops. Most of my use is probably 20’, lots of dry droppers this time of year. No issues turning the more air resistant droppers over at all. I’m really enjoying it. I’ll catch 6-8” fish in the smaller creeks and max out around 18” in the larger streams. For the smallest of the small the rod may be slightly over powered with a bit too much backbone- just takes a few to get a feel for how to play them."

Great river rod, and soooo light

"Having already got the regular utlralite NSX in a 8’6 #4 I was looking for a small stream ultralight weight rod. I saw the SR in a local shop and fell in love! The rod is incredible light, as bens review says, even compared to other rods in the shop such as the sage ll and Scott, the hardy just feels lighter. I picked up the 7’ #2 and I’ve got to say the action is perfect, not too fast but not soft, ideal for small streams. I actually used to work with Howard Croston many years ago and he was a fantastic angler, which shows in Hardys recent rod tapers. It’s a great rod."
