Building on Hardy’s legacy of innovation in cassette reel systems, their Ultradisc Cassette Fly Reel delivers lightweight versatility and modern performance in a refined design. As the evolution of Hardy’s original high-end cassette platform, the Ultradisc combines a durable bar stock frame, smooth full disc drag, and rapid-change spool system into a reel built for anglers who demand flexibility on the water. Whether switching between floating, sink-tip, or full sinking lines, the Ultradisc offers a streamlined solution without sacrificing performance or reliability, while sizes made to accommodate rod weights 4 through 11 provide an option for anything from panfish to freshly-run salmon.
Design
Lightweight Cassette System – The Ultradisc is built around a modern cassette spool system that allows anglers to quickly and easily swap lines without carrying multiple reels. The redesigned frame reduces overall weight while maintaining structural integrity, making it one of the lightest high-performance cassette reels in its class. A built-in line guard helps control thin running lines and prevents slippage, while the reintroduction of Hardy’s CLS (Cassette Locking System) ensures fast spool changes.
Finish
Machined Finish – This reel features a clean, modern finish that reflects Hardy’s commitment to quality and durability. Designed to withstand consistent use across freshwater environments, the finish maintains both visual appeal and long-term reliability.
Materials
Bar Stock Aluminum Frame w/ Polycarbonate Spools – The reel combines a precision-machined bar stock aluminum frame and spool carrier with durable polycarbonate cassette spools. This hybrid construction reduces overall weight while maintaining strength where it matters most, allowing anglers to carry multiple spool options without added bulk.
Drag
Full Disc Drag System – The Ultradisc is equipped with a full disc drag system that provides smooth, consistent resistance with fine adjustment capability. Designed for versatility, the drag offers enough stopping power for a wide range of freshwater species while maintaining controlled startup to protect lighter tippets.
Arbor Size
Large Arbor – Alarge arbor spool design increases line retrieval speed and reduces line memory, helping anglers maintain control during fast-moving fights. This design also improves efficiency when switching between different line types across multiple cassette spools.
Warranty
Hardy Warranty – As of April 2026, Hardy fly reels are covered by a manufacturer warranty against defects in design, materials, and workmanship for a period of five years from the original date of purchase (or as otherwise stated with the product). To activate full warranty benefits, reels should be registered with Hardy within 60 days of purchase, and proof of purchase should be retained for any future claims. This warranty applies to the original owner only and does not cover damage resulting from misuse, neglect, lack of maintenance, or normal wear and tear. For issues determined to be outside of manufacturing defects, Hardy offers a service and repair program with a standard service fee (typically $35 per claim plus parts), covering labor, processing, and return shipping. Replacement parts, if needed, will be quoted prior to repair. All warranty claims and repairs are handled at Hardy’s discretion, including determining whether a reel will be repaired or replaced.
