Description

The original NRX Series from G. Loomis contains some of our favorite rods we’ve ever fished. And we’re here to announce that they’ve made them even better in the NRX+ Series. These rods take intel gleaned during the research and design of the original NRX rods and pack a whole new punch to the world of fly fishing. Loomis has included Dynamic Recovery Technology, Mega Modulus+ graphite, and a slew of other technical advancements. We’ve fished these rods and firmly believe they’re better than ever before.

Blank

Dynamic Recovery Technology - Loomis’ new rod technology combines an all-new Mega Modulus+ graphite matrix and a GL8 resin system to create a blank with crisp smoothness and blitzing accuracy. Loomis also utilized an advanced compound taper construction process to make the NRX+ rod series as versatile, durable, and powerful as any rod on the market. This blank is incredibly lightweight with quick recovery speeds and unparalleled smoothness.

Guides

Titanium SiC Stripping Guides - Titanium stripping guides provide durability and friction-minimizing performance to the NRX+. These guides are made to be lightweight without sacrificing rigidity or performance.

Black Nickel/Titanium Single Foot Recoil Guides - Single-foot guides are made to be lightweight and encourage less friction than snake guides. The guides on the NRX+ rods are recoil which means they rebound when bent or crushed. More and more manufacturers are switching from snake guides to single-foot guides, and for good reason.

Reel Seat

Double Uplocking w/ Custom Reel Seat - The smaller NRX+ rods have a double uplocking reel seat with a custom walnut hardwood insert. The walnut insert is a beautiful dark, deep brown and adds a classic feel to the smaller NRX+ rods. The larger rods have an aluminum reel seat with a fighting butt for corrosion-resistance and increased leverage on larger fish.

Rod Tube

Aluminum Rod Tube - Like all of Loomis’ high-end fly rods, the NRX+ rods come in an aluminum rod tube with a cloth rod bag for protection during transportation and travel. These tubes hold up well and are great for cars, boats, planes, and any situation that may damage a fly rod.

Warranty

Loomis Limited Lifetime Warranty - As of November 2019, the G. Loomis NRX+, like all Loomis fly rods, is covered by a Lifetime Limited Warranty, which covers the rod for the life of the original owner. For breakage determined to have occurred due to non-conformance, G. Loomis will at the companies’ discretion, either repair or replace the product at no charge.

Xpeditor Service - G. Loomis offers an additional option for repair that we think is the industry’s finest. It’s a no-fault, no-questions-asked, service program that gets you fishing in as little as a few days!!

G. Loomis NRX+ Freshwater Fly Rod Review

The original NRX Series from G. Loomis contains some of our favorite rods we’ve ever fished. And we’re here to announce that they’ve made them even better in the NRX+ Series. The freshwater rods, specifically, are faster, more capable, and snappier than the previous iteration of the NRX freshwater rods. They're also hugely popular at the moment which is why this review has taken so long... we worked HARD for 6 months just to get a demo. Loomis put a lot of time, effort, research, and design into these rods...

Great Streamer Rod!

"Even though I've only had the NRX+ 9' 7wt for a couple of weeks, its already has become my go-to streamer rod. It feels incredibly light, yet punches those big flies. This is definitely a step up from my old setup!"

690-4 is a Fantastic rod

"I have the 690-4 and believe it is one of the best fast action 6wts available. Super smooth caster, swing weight is fine, and it punches large flies into the wind accurately. Distance is easy, never collapses with hard hauls. Build quality is excellent. I have found Loomis fly and spinning rods to be very durable. This 6wt is one of the best."

Mixed bag…

"The good….trident shipped fast, and the rod casts great(I mean really great). The bad…rod tip was noticeably off center. Contacted Loomis customer service, incredibly disappointing experience. Without going into details, I will say this will be my last G. Loomis….."

Beware of bent tips with this model

"I bought the 10’ 4wt NRX+ new and it came with a bent tip. The dealer checked their remaining two and each had a bent tip. Loomis sent me a replacement - with a bent tip. 4 new rods, 4 bent tips. Buyer beware on this model."

Not as good as mediums rods

"I am from patagonia chile, and I have dedicated myself to fly fishing since i was 12 years old, the truth is that this rod disappointed me too much, it does not have the power and it is not very fast as the experts say, I have a sage response rod and I can tell you that it is faster than the Gloomis NRX +, the truth is I am very disappointed about this rod."

Excellent Rod (590-4 and 4100-4)

"I love both of these rods. My brother has the 590-4 and its a cannon with great feel. I recently bought the 4100-4 and love it for nymphing and also dry fly situations that call for increased distances and lighter tippets. I think with some practice on short casts, it could be my go to trout rod for most situations. The 4100-4 balances best with a reel that weighs 5 or 6 ounces."
