Description

Douglas' new addition to the Sky Series, the Sky G, features all-new technology for performance like we've never seen. G-Tec keeps the rod blank lightweight and incredibly strong while efficient componentry adds to the rod's application-specific design. A beautiful reel seat gives the rod a trout-specific feel and easy functionality. This rod is made for the angler who targets trout from distance and needs pinpoint accuracy every time. That being said, the rod's performance inside 45-feet is also stellar. This is one of the most high-performing, versatile fly rods on the market.

Blank

G-Tec Blank Technology - The Sky G is made with graphene. Douglas claims it's 10x stronger than steel with only 5% of the density. The rod blank is a medium-fast action built with multi-modulus G-Tec platelets. This tech means the rod blank is lighter, recovery speeds are higher, the rod tracks better, and features some of the best performance in the 5wt trout rod sphere.

Guides

REC Titanium Cerecoil Stripping Guides - The stripping guide on the Sky G is a titanium REC recoil guide. These guides are extremely lightweight, rebound when bent or crushed, and feature friction-minimizing performance.

REC Titanium Recoil Guides - Titanium recoil guides rebound when bent or crushed. These guides are highly functional and keep the Sky G lightweight.

Reel Seat

Skeletonized Aluminum w/ Burled Blackwood Insert - The Sky G features a skeletonized aluminum reel seat with a burled blackwood insert. The rod also features double uplocking rings with nylon bushings. This reel seat keeps the rod lightweight and functional and the double uplocking rings anchor any freshwater fly reel securely in place.

Rod Tube

Aluminum Rod Tube - The Sky G comes in a durable Aluminum rod tube with a premium plush moisture wicking rod sock for increased protection. Lightweight aluminum keeps the Sky G safe during transportation, travel, and time off of the water.

Warranty

The Douglas Original Owner Lifetime Warranty - As of August 2019, Douglas has an original owner lifetime warranty on all of their fly rods. This warranty covers damage to the rod from any cause but excludes normal wear and tear or lost sections. Douglas will fix or replace your rod for a $20 shipping and handling fee within the contiguous United States.

  • Douglas Sky G Fly Rod Review

Maybe you've heard the hype, maybe you haven't. Douglas' brand new 5wt fly rod is certainly making waves in an industry that constantly rewards innovation and performance-based design. This rod has been touted as the best 5wt fly rod on the market and some people have even claimed it's the best trout rod of all time. Why are anglers making these outlandish claims? Graphene tech certainly plays a role. The blazing light swing weight and ridiculous recovery speeds also help. But is this rod really all it's cracked up to...

"I’ve have a loomis nrx lp ive used for several years that I think is great. The Douglas SKY G is better in my opinion. Every bit the feel, but a little more powerful."

SKY G

"Excellence casting. The 5 weight and 6 weight 9‘ models cast intuitively and accurately. There is a considerable difference between the two. The 5 is great for lighter presentation and the 6 weight can do it all. The swing weight is incredibly light. Good quality but typical overseas finishing on the wraps. Gloppy. Performance is very good and I would say it’s as good as anything out there (e.g. Loomis NRX+LP and even the Asquith) but not as good looking in terms of craftsmanship. I personally don’t like the bulky rod socks but that’s a personal preference and I would definitely recommend and buy again. Great at any range. A bit pricey for a Korean rod. But so is Hardy…"

Douglas Sky G rocks

"Purchased the Sky G 9’ 5wt after reading Trident’s review. I was still somewhat skeptical of the merits pointed out. Finally had the opportunity to try it out these past 2 summer months. I was not only impressed but astonished with the accuracy of the details pointed out in the review. First of all, it is incredibly super light without the loss of power. Matching the Sky with Scientific Anglers Amplitude Trout Taper Fly Line 5wt, the accuracy and ease of presentation to 40’ absolutely did not disappoint. Didn’t have the opportunity to cast to 60’ to test its capability. Overall I am very satisfied with my decision."

Perfect All-around rod!

"The Sky G 9’ 5-weight is a perfect all-around trout rod. It is much more accurate than other rods I’ve used and medium-fast action is fun to cast. The best thing about the rod is probably how light it feels in hand and how fun it is to fish. The rod also looks great and the recoil guides are nice to have. I can’t recommend this rod enough."
