The Contraband Crab Fly is one of those crab patterns that you can confidently fish whether you're on a sunny flat in the Bahamas looking for bones or a foggy river mouth in Rhode Island seeking out striped bass. Coming from the mind of Drew Chicone, he created the Contraband Crab Fly for stalking sandy flats and beaches of Florida and designed the fly based on inspiration from the Bauer Crab, Scotch-Brite Crab, and McFly Crab. Attempting to take the best parts of each of these patterns, Chicone invented the Contraband Crab Fly and has seen that it's an excellent choice when pursuing permit but also a reliable crab for a variety of species ranging from reds to bass.
Tied with a Scotch-Brite scouring pad body, rubber legs, chenille claws, and realistic eyes, the Contraband Crab is a durable and realistic pattern that can be fished in a variety of inshore environments. Keep one in your box every time you're hitting the salt and it won't take long to figure out how important this fly can be.
