Tied on a jig hook with a bead head, this fly rides point up and sinks quickly, while its slim profile, buggy thorax, segmented body, and red butt come together to give a realistic profile that matches anything from small mayfly nymphs to skinny caddis larvae.
The Red Butt Dart Fly can be fished any day of the year, and while it’s a great choice when Euro Nymphing, it can also get the job done with traditional nymphing tactics or underneath of a strike indicator. The Red Butt Dart can be fished in riffles, runs, and tailouts and is a pattern that won’t take long to feel confident with.
