Description
This fly was designed to be a searching pattern with a profile that imitates (depending on the size) everything from a Caddis to a Drake to a Stonefly. Tied on a jig hook, this trout fly works best when fished with Euro nymphing techniques, but can also be used under an indicator or off of a dry fly as a dropper. The soft hackle collar means it also works well as an emerger when swung in a soft current. The hotspot catches the attention of a feeding trout, and the imitative profile closes the deal. This is a great pattern from the western US to New Zealand and anywhere trout feed on a variety of insects under the surface. Because of its heavy tungsten design, this is a fly that should be used to target trout feeding deep in the water column or near the bottom. Pair this searching pattern with a smaller, technical mayfly, and you'll have great success in uncharted waters.
