Buy 12+ Flies, Get a Fly Box for $5
Description
When it comes to classic flies that have proven themselves and stood the test of time, it's hard to beat the Mickey Finn. Originally called The Assassin, the Mickey Finn was invented in Quebec in the early 1900s by Charles Langevin. It was later dubbed the Mickey Finn after a fishing trip with writer Greg Clark, who claimed that the fly was as dangerous as a drug-spiked drink called a Mickey Finn. All stories and names aside, the Mickey Finn is a simple and very effective bucktail streamer.
Tied on a long shank hook with a silver tinsel body and alternating clumps of yellow and red bucktail, the Mickey Finn provides a clean baitfish silhouette with just enough color and movement to attract fish. Fishing the Mickey Finn can be done dead drifted, stripped upstream, or swung down and across, and this fly is most popular in sizes 6-8. When the fishing's slow and you need to change things up, fall back on tradition and slip the fish a Mickey.
