Although invasive, the European Green Crab is a favorite food item for striped bass along the New England coast. Dragging heavily weighed crab flies on Maine sand flats was made popular by an old-time Maine angler named Alan Lindberg, and  Whalley’s Crack Crab is Ben’s modern imitation of this striped bass forage.

Combining a jig-style hook with heavy dumbbell eyes, rubber legs, and a realistic profile, this fly is perfect for scooting along the sand and has just enough movement to attract fish. Tied in both olive and sand, the Crack Crab is a solid choice anywhere crustaceans are on the menu.
