Just the fly for fishing those healthy, oxygen-rich waters that are crawling with stoneflies, the Two Bit Stone Fly is a heavy and durable nymph that makes it easy to get deep. Designed by Charlie Craven, the Two Bit Stone Fly came about whenever he realized that his Two Bit Hooker Fly just wasn't big enough. Setting out to create a larger Two Bit Fly, Charlie quickly realized that the stonefly was just the large nymph to imitate, and it wasn't long before the first Two Bit Stone was tied. Combining a lifelike look with a ton of weight, the Two Bit Stone Fly is tied with a split tail, UV Resin coated body, realistic wingcase, and where it differs from other patterns is with its multi-beaded thorax. Constructing his fly with so many beads in the thorax allowed Charlie to fish this fly deep and fool those large fish hugging the bottom.
It didn't take long for the Two Bit Stone to become a popular fly for matching immature stoneflies all over the country. The Two Bit Stone is most effectively fished either on a tight line or under an indicator, and this is a pattern that can be fished all year long. Fish it in large sizes up to an 8 and you'll see why this is such an important pattern.
