The jigged version of Charlie Craven’s original Two Bit Hooker features a barbless jig hook and a wingcase tied on the underside (upper side when the fly is in the water) of the hook shank. This pattern is similar to the Perdigon with two beads and small mayfly wings. The benefit of this fly is that it sinks quicker than the regular Perdigon and has a more lifelike profile. That being said, it maintains the same durability due to the epoxy back. This is a great mayfly pattern for technical trout feeding on small nymphs in tailwaters, spring creeks, and other fisheries. Charlie Craven is an Umpqua Signature Tyer who is known for his lifelike nymphs and other trout patterns. Use this fly in the western US and wherever mayflies are present.
