Based on the standard 20 Incher Stonefly Nymph created in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley, the Tungsten 20 Incher Stone Jig Fly has everything that the original does but with the addition of a heavy tungsten bead and a jig hook construction. Designed to work effectively as a general searching pattern as well as imitate those large stonefly nymphs that trout love, this fly has a biot tail, peacock herl body, buggy thorax with partridge legs, and it’s all tied on a jig hook so you can bounce the bottom without less fear of snags.
Thanks to its heavy tungsten bead, the Tungsten 20 Incher Stone Jig Fly is a great choice when fishing fast or deep water where you need to hit the bottom fast, and it also excels as a point fly in a nymphing system. The Tungsten 20 Incher Stone Jig Fly is a nymph that you can fish all year long, but you’ll find that it works especially well in the winter through early spring whenever fish are looking for a large, easy meal. Carry it in sizes 8-12 and it shouldn’t take very long before you realize how the Tungsten 20 Incher Stone Jig Fly got its name.
