Browns, steelhead, salmon, and even suckers all find themselves grabbing any egg they come across, and the Soft Egg Fly is a great imitation to match these aquatic omelets. Tied with a perfect egg-shape, accented with a contrasting dot, and made from synthetic egg yarn, the Soft Egg Fly provides realism and a “soft” feel that fish will commit to eating. 

The most effective way to fish the Soft Egg Fly is by dead drifting it in the current, but it does make an excellent point fly in a multi-nymph rig. Since eggs vary in size and color, you’ll want to have a variety on hand, but shades of orange and peach are very reliable. Fish eat eggs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and whether you’re targeting Great Lakes steelhead, stocked trout, or opportunistic spring rainbows, the Soft Egg Fly is one that should always be in your box.
