One of the many variations of the trustworthy Pheasant Tail Nymph, the Slim Flashback Pheasant Tail Nymph Fly is a great choice whenever you need to match those extra-small mayflies. Taking the body of the original PTN, slimming it down, and adding a flashback wingcase allows you to fish this fly either as an emerging insect or just rolling the bottom like you would with any other nymph. The Slim Flashback Pheasant Tail Nymph is a strong imitation for most smaller mayfly nymphs, but it’s a particularly good imitation for those tiny BWOs, so it’s an especially good idea to have this fly on hand from early spring into fall.
